Commenting on our last live , Alex gave us a challenge, which I took up: to compose an outfit for his daily life, involving very different situations.
- Walking on muddy ground
- Teach a lesson
- Do practical work outdoors
- Going out at night
My intention
I want to offer a rather sober outfit, which is suitable in all the environments mentioned.
The style is casual with a touch of elegance and workwear .
Let's also consider that this is an outfit for the fall season.
The shoes
1. My recommendation
I'm starting here because there is a challenge: you need shoes that can go through mud in the countryside but also be presentable in the city , for work.
The solution that comes to mind is brown brogue boots , in grained leather, with a rubber sole.
Why brogues? These are shoes as suitable for wearing in the city, because they are relatively elegant, as for the countryside, because that is where they have their origins.
Why boots? The high-top shoe better protects the ankle against splashes. If the exposure to mud is moderate, low brogues, on a derby shape, also seem entirely appropriate to me.
Why grained leather? It has a slightly more rustic appearance than smooth leather, which perfectly suits the style of the brogue. Its appearance, resembling smooth leather, does not shock the eye.
Why brown? Because it's a classic color for shoes of this type.
Why a rubber sole? It is the ideal sole for walking on unstable ground because it has good grip.
2. Alternatives
The ideal alternative would be the so-called “hunting” derby.
The hunting derby is characterized by a plateau seam on the front. Traditionally mounted on a rubber sole with good Norwegian or Goodyear stitching, this type of shoe is perfectly suited to the countryside and in the city, like the brogue.
Trousers
The range of possibilities is wide because there are not too many constraints on this piece.
1. My recommendation
For my part, I would like green pants with a touch of elegance.
A cotton chino could be just the thing.
To go a little further, I'm thinking of these olive green Scavini moleskin pants selected by Jérôme in his latest nuggets .
Moleskin is a thick, slightly fluffy material, and it changes from the traditional twill of classic chinos.
2. Alternatives
Raw denim is a classic and is acceptable in the context that interests us.
On another note, why not pants in a textured material . It could be a wool tweed for example, but not necessarily.
The first layer ( base layer )
1. My recommendation
I visualize a sweater. Specifically, a thin turtleneck in a shade of brown.
The thin turtleneck has many advantages: rather elegant, it protects and dresses the neck.
In wool, its thermal contribution is adequate in mid-season.
Chosen in a fairly warm brown color, it goes well with green pants and brown shoes.
2. Alternatives
You can of course opt for a round neck or high neck sweater, if you prefer.
Besides, I would like a plain oxford or flannel shirt . Something rather casual.
The middle layer
1. My recommendation
An unstructured, relaxed blazer.
It's the kind of garment that moves away from the very austere suit jacket while still being a bit dressy.
I would like to see a beautiful houndstooth pattern , which adds character.
I'm thinking of this Oliver Spencer jacket for example, which has the particularity of being able to button all the way to the top:
2. Alternatives
More casual than a blazer, you can try:
- An overshirt
- A denim jacket
- A work jacket
Outerwear
1. My recommendation
I see a rain coat, mid-length, with a hood, to protect you from bad weather.
Considering the colors of the outfit, in rather seasonal tones, I choose a khaki parka from the Aigle brand, light and waterproof:
2. Alternatives
From my point of view, any mid-season raincoat can do the trick here, for example:
- Trench coat
- Macintosh
- Barbour type waxed cotton jacket
