To avoid missteps, check the following points:
1
The collar of the shirt is visible, even at the nape of the neck. There is no gap between the collar of the shirt and that of the jacket. And the shoulders break cleanly, without folds, the seam on the bone.
2
Slight tension folds form in a star shape at the first button. You can generally pass a fist between the first button and the sternum.
3
The curve hugs your shape without compressing you.
4
With your arms relaxed, the sleeves end about 2 cm from your ulna.
5
There should be as few creases as possible in the back of the jacket.
6
The lapels should be flat against the chest.
7
The jacket stops mid-buttocks (feel free to have it shortened).
INVESTING IN QUALITY
To check the quality of your blazer, check the following points:
- Open buttonhole with horn, wood or corozo buttons.
- Fabrics made from 100% natural fibers (cotton, linen, wool, cashmere, etc.).
- No creases appear on the blazer after a few months of wearing (the material does not bubble).
THE ORIGINS OF THE BLAZER
Originally flamboyantly coloured and adorned with a coat of arms whose colours represented a rowing club, it was a means of distinguishing between different clubs.
Since then, it has crossed the ages, while adapting to them. Today an icon of masculine elegance , it can be worn both to go to work and to go for a drink with friends.
VARIANTS AND MATERIALS
Double-breasted or straight, single or double-breasted, the men's blazer has become more popular and now comes in many variations, but remains an essential piece for any elegant man.
The shoulders can be natural (called Neapolitan) and follow the silhouette of the body, or oversized (called Roman) to structure the shoulder of your jacket. In the latter case, epaulettes will be placed under the shoulder.
NOTCHED REVERSE
It is the easiest collar to wear, and the most versatile too.
SPIKED REVERSE
A little more daring than its notched counterpart, it is more or less common depending on trends.
SHAWL COLLAR
It is distinguished from the two previous ones by its continuous line. Its wearing is particularly suitable for dressy evenings.
