Discovering our high-waisted pants
David takes charge
“ Hey, look at this, it’s so cool! ”
October 18, 2021.
I'm in the showroom. This is where our upcoming clothing is located.
A pair of pants catches my eye.
I take it. There is something different about him than usual but I don't immediately see what.
I hear Émilie from the product center tell me:
“These are our high-waisted pants. You can try it if you want David. I think it’ll be your size.”
Did I hear “high waisted” correctly?
Without a second thought, I put the beast on and the magic happens. You have to see me when I try on beautiful clothes. Christophe our editor-in-chief tells me that I look like a child on Christmas Day.
In this case, the high waist of these pants perfectly suits my tastes and my body shape. I feel good.
I take a photo in the heat of the moment:
I meet several people in the corridors including Romane (who works on the shoots) and Michel (who shows you our Gurkha pants a little further down) in particular. Very cheerful, I exclaim:
“Hey, look at this, it’s so cool!”
After praising the high waist and showing off my best dance moves (it's not true), I end up putting the pants down, happy with this moment spent with him. Happy to learn that we are about to offer it to you in our collection.
The next day, I received this message from Michel:
“David, how about writing the article introducing the high-waisted pants? I saw the stars in your eyes yesterday and I thought you would be the right person for this.”
Yes, I want it.
These pants, you are waiting for them
And we heard you
You are interested in pants. High-waisted pants even more so. You often ask us about this: where to find them, if our pants are high waisted, if we plan to offer you some.
Why this enthusiasm?
Because the high waist flatters the figure.
How ?
By resting at your natural waist line
Result ?
An impression of visual harmony emerges.
This vision of the silhouette with retro accents has been making a comeback in recent years. You'll find a plethora of successful looks on Instagram with high-waisted pants.
A long time ago, Sean Connery wore the high waist very well in Dr. No.
In addition, the high waist is particularly suitable if you are rather short
On another note, this extra height is very useful when you wear your top tucked into your pants. T-shirt, sweater or shirt will stay in place better and will be less tempted to sneak out.
A brand new cut
High waist, straight fit
These pants therefore have a higher amount than our other models. It happens around the navel.
Right on the navel or slightly below, depending on your body shape and preference.
It sits comfortably just above your hips and believe me: you get the taste for it pretty quickly.
It's not just the height that changes: let's also talk about the volume of the leg.
The cut is straight. In other words: slightly straight.
On the one hand, we have retained the ease in the pelvis and thighs of our carrot cut that you know well. On the other hand, we have widened the bottom of the leg compared to this carrot cut.
This is a close enough volume to our latest chinos to give you an idea.

Attention all color lovers!
This tweed has things to tell you
In addition to a new cut, these pants are also an opportunity to introduce you to a new color in our palette: rust.
Rust? This corresponds to a slightly orange-brown. This quite warm shade has everything you need to add some pep to your fall/winter outfits.
This fabric is a tweed sourced from Abraham Moon.
Of English origin, Moon has been producing carded wool fabrics since 1837 in his workshop in Guiseley, a suburb of Leeds.
It is renowned for its textured and creative woolen fabrics, particularly tweed.
This wool weighing 360 grams per linear meter is distinguished by a so-called pinhead appearance.
If you look more closely, you will see that the fabric is dotted with small dots in contrasting colors which add relief and visual richness to the material.
The wool comes from South Africa and is certified mulesing free
The spinning and weaving are carried out in England, in Moon's workshop.
The manufacturing is carried out in Romania, in the usual workshop which makes our city pants.
You will like these details
Sartorial spirit
1. Side clamping tabs
They allow you to adjust the waist size as you wish, depending on your current shape and the height at which you want to wear the pants.
Tightening them as much as possible allows you to gain approximately a full size: you have some margin.
The belt stays in the closet this time :)
2. Front darts
One clip on each leg, two in total for the most attentive in the audience.
The pleat is a visual element that dresses both the pants and your legs.
3. Ticket pocket with flap
It's like the ticket pocket of your favorite jeans, but more elegant with a flap and a button.
Pretty, right?
4. And it's not over yet!
You will also find a buttoned fly at the front and a V for comfort at the back, aesthetic and practical.
How I wear these high waisted pants
Two looks concocted by me (and validated by Jordan ✅ )
These pants inspire me.
So I wanted to offer you some outfits of my own.
As you see, these pants go with all the classic colors of the men's wardrobe
I am 1m88 tall and weigh 80kg and wear a size 50.
1. Casual chic with a twist
I wanted to show you these pants with a blazer.
I choose it in a winter material to match the tweed of the pants. This gray/brown houndstooth jacket is perfect for that.
Always to respect the season, I opt for a striped flannel shirt and an ecru turtleneck, which replaces the eternal white t-shirt.
On my feet, sneakers. The cream-colored upper is reminiscent of the turtleneck. The rubber sole is reminiscent of pants.
2. Workwear is in the air
I then think of a more workwear-style outfit.
We send the cavalry with my trusty Red Wing boots, the color of which complements the pants well.
Next, an olive-colored military jacket. I really like the association of this green with rust. My recommendation: wear green tops with these pants!
And to protect yourself from the cold, a large, thick, textured knit is essential. I chose our taupe-colored Stresa turtleneck, which brings a slight touch of light to this ensemble.
Our gurkha flannel pants
Presented by Michel
I don't know about you, but I loved reading David and I'm glad I gave him the pen on these high-waisted pants. He presented it with the same passion as when he showed it to everyone in the office and it was beautiful to see. If you agree with me, send him strength in the comments below 😉
And on the way, I suggest showing you our new gurkha.
Many of you appreciate this piece as much as we do, or even more, since the first two quickly became victims of their success (this is the moment where I thank you for your support)!
For those who are discovering this type of pants today and would like to understand our enthusiasm: a little catch-up session on Gurkha pants.
Ode to the Gurkha
We love him a little, a lot, passionately...
Before defining a piece of clothing, Gurkha was the name given to Nepalese soldiers of the 19th century. They were so fierce in battle that Britain decided to conscript them into their Indian army in 1857.
But it wasn't just their skills that were attractive, as the bottom of their uniform, light, loose-fitting shorts that let the hot desert air circulate, was later imitated by the British Army. Now, we are talking about the Gurkha as clothing.
Then, as in the case of the fatigue pant and the cargo ship, it is the civilians' turn to hijack it. In the form of Bermuda shorts or pants.
Its iconic belt, which was used to adjust to variations in the weight of soldiers, thus becomes an aesthetic asset.
We are a fan of the Gurkha because:
- Its integrated belt at the waist and its pleats give it a very interesting aesthetic.
- He has an assertive personality that stands out from the crowd.
- It nicely marks the waist and gives structure to the silhouette.
However, his belt is not just there to show off.
It is primarily there to make the waist of the pants adjustable. This is why she served so much in her military career.
This double belt system is there for those times when your scale tells you that you have lost two kilos. It will also be there when you want to place your pants higher, or when you tell yourself that you shouldn't have chosen that XL menu for an extra euro.
And for those days when you are shy of the Gurkha belt or just want to do without it, you can cover it by passing your knit over it.
A tweed from Abraham Moon
English spun
If you are following, you have understood that it is the same material that David described to you above. What changes is the color.
As these pants already express themselves very well with their belt, we found that a beautiful winter gray would be more relevant than a strong color here. On this kind of tweed, it's a great classic that never fails. It highlights all the nuances of its pinhead weave and we find it very satisfying to watch.
As David points out above:
- The wool comes from South Africa and is certified mulesing free
. - The spinning and weaving are carried out in England, in Moon's workshop.
- The manufacturing is carried out in Romania, in the usual workshop which makes our city pants.
A carrot cut
The way we do it at home
Originally, Gurkha pants were particularly loose. To crawl in the desert, it was the least we could do.
We, as usual, offer you this fullness where we think it is essential to fully enjoy your day without it constraining you: at the thigh level.
Then, we adjusted the bottom to outline the silhouette.
Notice to connoisseurs: this is the same cut as for our Breno, MC, Cappio joggers etc...
We chose a buttoned fly, whose high-end finish lends itself well to this type of pants:
The back piped pockets are also buttoned.
All buttons are made of horn
For the belt buckles, we chose a “gun metal” finish which goes very well with the gray flannel. You can not find ?
How to get our new parts?
