Point of vigilance: the cowboy outfit
Wearing two denim items of similar or identical color can quickly give you a cowboy look , or at least a very American workwear feel.
Such a look isn't necessarily a bad thing if that's your intention:
In the example above, the approach is assumed
Set your style intention
In what direction do you want to take your outfit?
This is an important question to ask yourself, because wearing two denim items in one outfit is a pretty strong statement.
Would you like to assert your style even more and go for a resolutely vintage, retro look by combining jeans and a denim jacket or shirt with a Henley and Converse?
Do you prefer the rock style, by combining fitted black jeans, a gray denim jacket with black ankle boots and a white t-shirt?
Or do you prefer a casual chic look, in which case a relaxed blazer can be teamed with a denim shirt, sneakers and your trusty jeans?
These different stylistic directions are illustrated by the visuals in this article , which give you a good vision of the range of possibilities when combining two denim garments.
Bring contrast
1. Contrast of blue
Assuming that the two denim items you want to wear together are blue, the easiest way to pair them is to wear two contrasting blues: one that's more dark and one that's more light.
Let's define together what we mean by dark and light.
Here, Jordan is wearing a dark jacket and light jeans . We understand very well that these two pieces have nothing to do with each other, are very different.
The t-shirt is not optical white but ecru, tending towards yellow.
The moccasins and the colorful cap give the look a slightly Ivy League feel.
Now, the other way around: light denim on top, dark denim on the bottom.
The superb Levi's Vintage Clothing suede leather trucker jacket and the Visvim suede shoes in the associated color do the rest.
2. Color contrast
If we include denim clothes that are not blue (white, ecru, black or gray), we can bring out other contrasts.
And if you choose a light color and a dark one, the two clothes will be even further apart: a light blue with a dark gray for example. Or a dark blue with an ecru.
And yes, white jeans with a raw denim jacket work every time.
From there, you can put together the rest of your outfit however you want.
Here, a textured henley and terracotta derby are chosen, to assert a workwear but not cowboy look.
Wearing black and gray denim together will take your look towards a more rock style .
This is even more the case here with Dr. Martens and a white printed t-shirt.
It's rarer, but for your information, there is also very colorful denim.
In which case it can be used as a colored garment, to be combined with another denim of your choice, typically blue.
Densify your outfit: layering and accessories
The idea here is to wear other pieces or accessories that will distract the look from the two denims, so that they appear more in the background.
The more visually rich your outfit is, the more daring things you can do with denim, because it is no longer the center of the outfit.
It is therefore with layering that it is easiest to wear a denim set, or two items of clothing in very similar denim.
This involves using a coat over a denim jacket, a jacket or a blazer over a denim shirt:
On Jordan's outfit above, the denim ensemble
The orange hat also allows you to see more.
In this second example, the denim shirt is hidden by the tie, the jacket and the raincoat
The boots, which definitely have a cowboy look, also go almost unnoticed because the eye is drawn upwards.
In this third and final example, there is not a lot of layering : just a blazer which creates a style break with the shirt and jeans, which nevertheless remain very visible. Note the pocket on the chest of the blazer which adds a little more formality to the whole.
When this gentleman takes off his blazer, the outfit directly takes on a much more American workwear, cowboy feel, particularly with this shirt with two chest pockets and metal buttons.
