Editorial nuggets #02 – David

After the launch of this format last week by Benoît with a selection focused on travel , it's my turn to offer you my selection of nuggets.

The principle of this series of articles: every week, a member of the editorial department shares with you his favorite pieces of the moment (well installed in the back of his wardrobe), those that make him vibrate, that he wants to make for you share.

So I'm bringing you into my sartorial garden with sartorial, workwear and Japanese casual.

1. Slack jacket Frog Leg

men's look blue blazer white t-shirt beige chinos

Light, casual, versatile: a good little slack jacket!

Why this brand?

We tested the Cuisse de Grenouille shorts in 2012 , but we haven't really followed the brand's development since then.

We won't necessarily recommend shirts with a contrasting throat or t-shirts and sweatshirts with messages, but I was pleasantly surprised by the coats offered this season , in good taste, in 100% wool, and at affordable prices.

And that's not all...

Why this room?

During my wanderings on their e-shop, I also came across this unstructured cotton jacket that could be described as a slack jacket .

Here offered in a sober navy, available in all sizes (at the time of writing these lines) and at a low price, it is for me THE ideal garment that answers the question:

"Hi, I want to be more elegant so I'm considering buying a blazer, but I don't want a jacket that's too formal, too 'suity'. What do you recommend?"

I currently own two SuitSupply slack jackets: a blue one in micro houndstooth and a gray one in micro caviar, which I wear very often.

A gray slack jacket on the left worn with a shirt and tie. A blue slack jacket on the right worn with a henley. No problem !

It may not be the most winter-friendly piece of clothing, but as soon as it gets a little warmer, you'll be glad you have it.

You will find slack jackets at SuitSupply , Cadot and sometimes Massimo Dutti .

2. Silbon sartorial pants

The appeal of sartorialism...

Why this brand?

Spanish brand born in 2008, you may have seen me recommending Silbon in recent months. And for good reason: the brand stands out by offering a sartorial-inspired wardrobe at affordable prices.

In idea, it's a bit like Lopez Aragon, but with a more digestible e-shop and a boutique in Paris.

Why this room?

I don't own many dress pants, and my next purchase will probably be sartorial-inspired pants: high waist, drawstring tabs, front pleats, straight cut.

That’s good, exactly like these Silbon pants in fact (what a coincidence). In 100% wool with a versatile gray color, a ticket pocket, a price of €80, this is a good opportunity to begin my transformation into Andreas Weinas.

3. Benjamin Jezequel Japanese cotton shirt

Why this brand?

If you have been following us for some time, you know that we really appreciate the work of Benjamin Jezequel: Benoît tested a t-shirt and a sweatshirt from the brand in 2013 (sweatshirt that I still own) and a collaboration with BonneGueule was created in 2014 .

Since then, the brand has come a long way: it recently acquired a new e-shop, has just opened a store in Paris and launched a new collection.

Why this room?

I sometimes receive messages from people looking for slightly more original shirts, because they are bored with white or blue poplin or oxford shirts.

And changing from the classic shirt does not imply moving towards contrasting collars or all-over flower prints. This means looking for more textured, more high-end materials with character.

And this is the case with this Benjamin Jezequel ecru/gray checked shirt with pretty cotton from Kuwamura. It's typically the kind of piece that boosts your style in a subtle way: it will blend in with your looks but visually, you'll see that there's something extra without necessarily being able to say what. Except you will know 🙂

This shirt is also available in blue checks .

4. Paname Blue Jacket

Why this brand?

I feel like 2019 is going to be the year of workwear for me. So, at the moment, I spend a lot of time in workwear brand shops. And I came across some very nice things at Bleu de Paname , a French brand with a strong and assertive workwear style.

Why this room?

I have no particular affinity with the zipped jacket. However, it is a part in which I became interested following your numerous questions, looking for good brands offering this part. And I was won over by this model offered this season at Bleu de Paname.

Made from a good woolen cloth, with a little padding, a shirt collar and patch pockets with flaps and snap buttons, it's a beautiful piece, and affordable during this sales period (we're arriving in the niche of coats with less than 200€ ).

Also available in a bright light gray and black .

5. Universal Works Work Jacket

Why this brand?

Universal Works is a good entry point to get started with rather basic, refined and affordable workwear. The founder, David Keyte, a very cool name notably worked for Maharishi 🙂

Why this room?

Swearing only by blazers, cardigans and sweaters for many years, work jackets and other bombers didn't inspire me much until recently.

Because we all change our minds sometimes , it's a product that I'm starting to appreciate, having very recently purchased my first work jacket from Drapeau Noir .

I chose this model from Universal Works for its beautiful olive color and its patch pockets, perfectly in keeping with the spirit of the piece, and its rather accessible price.

Cut from 100% cotton twill, wear it with a chambray or denim shirt, a white t-shirt or a gray sweatshirt.

On that note, see you next week for the selection of...

David Hao, maximum soft tailoring

I think clothing can be a beautiful means of personal development. I like unstructured jackets, straight pants and loafers.
