I've loved the perfecto for a long time, in this episode of Gimmick, I wanted to show you that you shouldn't be intimidated by this piece, which is not reserved for rockers.
And give you ideas on how to wear it well without falling into caricature. Knowing that I invite you to watch the episode of Panache that Jordan dedicated to this leather jacket.
1. Fine creek, simple and effective
This outfit has the merit of simplicity: a black perfecto, a white t-shirt and jeans. For a typically Japanese silhouette with straight jeans and fitted leather at the top. The jacket is from the Fine Creek brand, very famous for the patina of its leathers.
Be careful, this outfit can only work if the perfecto is impeccable. On the other hand, I'm not a fan of the hat outside of winter. And I would have rather opted for an ecru t-shirt than optical white.
To know the history of the perfecto, Jordan made this video for you.
2. Ethan Wong (1), unexpected outfit
Original in its pattern, the t-shirt adds something unexpected to this outfit. Tucked into the pants, it clearly marks the waist with the perfecto for a structured outfit.
The fit and length of the white (or ecru) pants are perfect. I don't really like to combine black and white, but this works well thanks to the suede ankle boots, in a very pretty shape.
And the patina of the perfecto gives a real character to this look.
3. Ethan Wong (2), texture set
This outfit is surprising, you had to think about combining a chambray shirt, a tie, a patterned v-neck sweater with a perfecto. We arrive at a beautiful play of textures with a very successful form of kitsch. While I'm not a fan of the V-neck.
The sober dress pants which go very well with the rest and the patina of the perfecto plays a lot in this look.
4. Simon Crompton, rustic and timeless
I like this kind of outfit with seemingly simple, but perfectly controlled colors. The jacket conveys a more vintage, timeless vibe. Which is highlighted with the double pleats of the pants. In the end, the camel chinos go really well.
And because you need a little texture, especially against the smooth leather and fabric of the chinos, he took a gray sweater, which remains in the same color intensity as the chinos. As the perfecto was worn in very cold climates, it required a very warm piece underneath. It’s a nice nod to the origin of this jacket.
It also goes well with the “aviator, rider” side of this piece.
5. Christophe, in workwear mode
This photo was taken when ourjacket was released in January 2021. And I really like this outfit from our editor-in-chief, Christophe.
Already because I love the perfecto + cargo pants combination. And it's not just any cargo, coming from Maharishi . The patinated fabric gives a very coherent look with the rest of the outfit. Then the texture of the dark chunky knit sweater by De Bonne Facture makes a great contrast with the leather, and the plum color doesn't stand out too much.
As for the Barker boots, in hiking boot mode, as someone who loves outdoor clothing, this could only touch me. In the end, it's a nice balance, and this outdoor influence aspect I didn't see coming with the perfecto but it goes well.
