4 OUTFITS FOR... GOING TO A FESTIVAL

Last summer, BonneGueule accompanied you to the beaches with our Fashion on the Beach format. Shirt, hat, sandals, you now have all the right reflexes to look stylish, even on fine sand.

The sun and the coconut trees are back, so it's time for us to offer you a new summer series entitled: 4 outfits for...

Presented by Nawal, David, Benoît and Jérôme, the members of the editorial took up the challenge of adapting their summer outfits to different situations.

In today's exercise, we're heading to festivals, where our editorial team will have to confront the very specific requirements and needs of open-air concerts.

A video to watch before going to sing and dance to the sound of your favorite group.

NAWAL’S LOOK

Ah, the festivals... Between you and me, it's a bit like my Paradise on Earth - especially the rock concerts which move well . I told you about it in my Carte Blanche about my love for the leopard pattern:

I've done quite a few concerts and festivals over the last ten years. So I experimented with the worst (and best) things to wear! This is what I decided to wear in this video:

  • A dark, classic and plain t-shirt, that I'm not afraid to get dirty . This one is made of organic cotton, so it's very breathable, perfect if I find myself right in the middle of the pit sweating in the infernal heat.
  • Simple straight jeans , in slightly faded black denim. With him, I won't be afraid to sit on the grass to eat a hot dog between two concerts. I also add a black belt so as not to lose it, because that would still be stupid!
  • A good big pair of Dr Martens , black, in leather. It goes with everything, it's sturdy, and it allows you to crush other people's feet during pogos, without getting your own feet crushed.
  • A practical little bag: here, a banana purchased second hand. I put the essentials in it, and I keep my hands free to dance and clap.
  • Because we are never safe from a little downpour, I take a waterproof raincoat . I find this one quite funny: it’s transparent with lots of little regressive designs. It's really the strong and offbeat piece of the look that breaks up the very dark total look.

There you go, ready to go make my groupie !

DAVID’S LOOK

I haven't really done festivals in my life, but I could see myself doing a few more. And from what I've seen, there's often a bit of a rootsy side: we sleep in tents, we sit everywhere, etc.

It's a pretty messy environment so you need clothes that aren't too scary.

  • On top, I would have worn a t-shirt or one with a fun print but I don't have one on hand, so I opt for a textured gray t-shirt:
  • At the bottom, I take a beige Carhartt Bermuda shorts bought very cheaply on Yoox. It's the one I take everywhere, that I don't worry about damaging or getting dirty. It still matches my style with its fairly high waist and pleats.
  • On my feet, I wear old German Army Trainers . This pair is a little too worn for my everyday outfits, so I recycle them into sports, evening... or festival shoes! I tell my story with this pair of shoes in this article:

And the highlight of the show is of course this black poncho.

In fact, I've seen a lot of videos of festivals in summer where it rains, for example at Tomorrowland, and the spectators find themselves carrying some kind of large plastic bags that aren't very aesthetic.

So I think it's good to have your own rain gear. And it turns out I have this pretty unique poncho because it's made of coated linen . So the main material is linen, then there is induction, a technical treatment to provide water resistance.

It's an original, funny piece of clothing that gives a certain look. Since it is square once unbuttoned, we can even find other uses for it: as a blanket or picnic mat for example.

JEROME’S LOOK

The music festival in summer has long been a tradition at my house. I did a certain number of them between the ages of 17 and 40, all over France, often in rock or electronic registers. At the time, I was not really interested in fashion or textile materials. I didn't watch the weather either. It was all just about the music and the style. Most of the time they were quite dark clothes, with vintage pieces here and there, especially in leather . I tell the story of the birth of this passion here:

Festivals and more generally concerts, I also organized some myself in another life, indoors and with a more intimate atmosphere. But today, with my physical constraints , I no longer do festivals. If I still had to think of an outfit, it would look like the one you will discover in this video: a relaxed outfit, made with pieces that don't worry much .

Anything can happen at a festival: sun, rain, dust, mud, beer, etc... This outfit is also a sort of homage outfit to the film “M*A*S*H. » by Robert Altman, who, like actor Elliott Gould, incorporates a floral shirt with a slightly military feel . We have already mentioned this film here in Bobine:

In details :

  • BonneGueule beige cargo pants, solid and practical . For the touch of military style and the pockets, always very useful when you don't want to take up too much space. They're not the most breathable piece of the outfit, but I wear these pants a lot in general, even in the summer. For other inspirations with a cargo ship, you can take a look here:
  • A pair of white Zespà sneakers, well worn but still functional. They have the particularity of being made in France and have been with me for several years now. They are solid, comfortable and no longer fear much, neither rain nor dust. I'm wearing them here with Mazarin invisible cotton/linen socks found at Mes Chaussettes Rouges . These sneakers were already in my shoe closet inventory in 2020:
  • Above, a BonneGueule merino T-shirt under a Hartford floral linen shirt. For the first layer, you can consider a cotton/linen t-shirt depending on the weather. The shirt brings a little fun and lightness. To go further on shirts and flowers:
  • On her head, an indigo Brut Clothing bucket hat . It's the accessory that counts for facing the sun, just like the Aigle boots or the Ventile parka if the rain ever comes to the party .
This bob is quite light, inspired by what the sculptor Brancusi wore and I quite like its cabbage leaf look. The sunglasses are an extra: they are Kirk Originals in this video but I recommend a less expensive model for this type of event. Our advice on the subject here, if necessary:

THE BENOÎT LOOK

My festival outfit has evolved a bit lately, especially after seeing the flooded crowd at We Love Green! I chose to prepare an outfit for a festival where anything can happen. Functional, with a touch of madness, this outfit meets many criteria. Have I ever told you that I love techwear ?

Whether you have your tickets for the Dour festival, the Boom festival or Jazz in Marciac, I imagine that you want to combine comfort, practicality and still, a minimum of elegance . That is how :

  • A good old pair of New Balances . When you have to watch out for mud, dust, but also the huge feet of the man in front, the New Balance is naturally a good solution.
I chose not to take waterproof shoes, because once inside, the water will no longer be able to escape. Most New Balances are made of mesh, which dries quite quickly, in addition to being nice to wear. We had already talked about the brand right here:
  • THE P-10 pants from Acronym . This is my favorite of the year, it was impossible for me to make an outdoor outfit without slipping this marvel into it. Ultra-functional with all its practical pockets, its impeccable cut, its big selling promise is that it is made of EPIC , a nylon fabric designed by and for the military.
  • A merino wool t-shirt from BonneGueule. Simple and effective, it is easily adapted. The more time passes, the more this t-shirt becomes a Classic.
  • A Wake overshirt from BonneGueule. Made of organic French cotton, slub effect, it goes well with the technicality of the pants, thanks to its workwear style. Once again, plenty of pockets to store your mess. For the curious, here is the difference between shirt and overshirt:
  • In case of a slight cold, a fleece from the Japanese brand Capital. It's warm, it's original and atypical, it's typically a piece to put on at a festival.
  • An Arcteryx Leaf LT jacket. It's my secret weapon! Very light, thanks to its Gore-Tex composition, the cut of the jacket is perfect, slightly oversized . Once again, it is reminiscent of military clothing, with all these technical aspects, these pockets, this adjustable hood.
