4 OUTFITS FOR... GOING TO A FESTIVAL

Last summer, BonneGueule accompanied you to the beaches with our Beach Fashion format. Shirt, hat, sandals, you now have all the right reflexes to have style, even on fine sand.

The sun and coconut trees are back, so it's time for us to offer you a new summer series called: 4 outfits for...

Presented by Nawal, David, Benoît and Jérôme, the members of the editorial team took up the challenge of adapting their summer outfits to different situations.

In today's exercise, we head to the festivals, where our editorial team will have to confront the very specific requirements and needs of open-air concerts.

A video to watch before going to sing and dance to the sound of your favorite band.

NAWAL'S LOOK

Ah, festivals... Between you and me, they're a bit like my Heaven on Earth - especially the rock concerts that really rock . I was talking about them in my Carte Blanche on my love for the leopard print:

I've been to quite a few concerts and festivals over the past ten years. So I've experimented with the worst (and best) clothes to wear! Here's what I decided to wear in this video:

  • A dark, classic, plain t-shirt that I'm not afraid to get dirty . This one is made of organic cotton, so it's very breathable, perfect if I find myself in the middle of the pit sweating in the infernal heat.
  • A simple pair of straight jeans , in slightly faded black denim. With them, I won't be afraid to sit on the grass to eat a hot dog between concerts. I also add a black belt so I don't lose it, because that would be stupid!
  • A good big pair of Dr Martens , black, leather. They go with everything, they're sturdy, and they allow you to crush other people's feet during pogos, without getting your own feet crushed.
  • A small, practical bag: here, a second-hand fanny pack. I put the essentials in it, and I keep my hands free to dance and applaud.
  • Because we are never safe from a little shower, I take a waterproof raincoat . I find this one quite funny: it is transparent with lots of little regressive designs. It is really the strong and offbeat piece of the look that breaks up the very dark total look.

And there you have it, ready to go be a groupie !

DAVID'S LOOK

I haven't really done any festivals in my life, but I could see myself doing a few more. And from what I've seen, there's often a bit of a roots side to it: we sleep in tents, we sit everywhere, etc.

It's a pretty dirty environment so you need clothes that aren't too messy.

  • On top, I would have liked to wear a t-shirt with a fun print but I don't have one on hand, so I opt for a textured gray t-shirt:
  • At the bottom, I take a beige Carhartt Bermuda shorts bought cheaply on Yoox. These are the ones I take everywhere, that I don't worry about damaging or getting dirty. They still match my style with their fairly high waist and their pleats.
  • On my feet, I wear old German Army Trainers . This pair is a little too worn for my everyday outfits, so I recycle them into sports shoes, evening shoes... or festival shoes! I tell my story with this pair of shoes in this article:

And the highlight of the show is of course this black poncho.

In fact, I've seen quite a few videos of festivals in the summer where it rains, for example at Tomorrowland, and the spectators end up carrying these big plastic bags that aren't very attractive.

So I think it's nice to have your own rainwear. And it turns out that I have this poncho that's quite unique because it's made of coated linen . So the main material is linen, and then there's an induction, a technical treatment to provide water resistance.

It is an original, fun garment that gives a certain style. Since it is square once unbuttoned, we can even find other uses for it: as a blanket or a picnic rug for example.

JEROME'S LOOK

Summer music festivals have long been a tradition for me. I went to a number of them between the ages of 17 and 40, all over France, often in rock or electronic genres. At the time, I wasn't really interested in fashion or textiles. I didn't watch the weather either. Everything was purely about music and style. Most of the time, it was fairly dark clothing, with vintage pieces here and there, especially in leather . I tell you about the birth of this passion here:

Festivals and more generally concerts, I also organized some myself in another life, indoors and with a more intimate atmosphere. But today, with my physical constraints , I no longer do festivals. If I had to think about an outfit, it would look like the one you will discover in this video: a relaxed outfit, composed with pieces that don't fear much .

Anything can happen at a festival: sun, rain, dust, mud, beer, etc. This outfit is also a sort of tribute outfit to the film "M*A*S*H." by Robert Altman, which, like the actor Elliott Gould, includes a floral shirt with a slightly military style . We have already mentioned this film here in Bobine:

In detail:

  • A pair of beige BonneGueule cargo pants, sturdy and practical . For the touch of military style and the pockets, always useful when you don't want to be too encumbered. It's not the most breathable piece of the outfit, but I wear these pants a lot in general, even in summer. For other inspirations with cargo, you can take a look here:
  • A pair of white Zespà sneakers, well worn but still functional. They have the particularity of being made in France and have been with me for several years now. They are solid, comfortable and no longer fear much, neither rain nor dust. I am wearing them here with invisible Mazarin cotton/linen socks found at Mes Chaussettes Rouges . These sneakers were already in my shoe closet inventory in 2020:
  • On top, a BonneGueule merino t-shirt under a Hartford linen flower shirt. For the first layer, you can consider a cotton/linen t-shirt depending on the weather. The shirt brings a bit of fun and lightness. To learn more about shirts and flowers:

  • On the head, an indigo Brut Clothing bob . It's the accessory that counts to face the sun, just like the Aigle boots or the Ventile parka if ever the rain invites itself to the party .
This bob is quite light, inspired by what the sculptor Brancusi wore and I quite like its cabbage leaf side. The sunglasses are in addition: they are Kirk Originals in this video but I recommend a less expensive model for this type of event. Our advice on the subject here, if necessary:

BENOÎT'S LOOK

My festival outfit has evolved a bit lately, especially after seeing the flooded crowd at We Love Green! I chose to prepare an outfit for a festival where anything can happen. Functional, with a touch of madness, this getup meets many criteria. Did I already tell you that I love techwear ?

Whether you have your tickets for the Dour festival, the Boom festival or Jazz in Marciac, I imagine that you want to combine comfort, practicality and still, a minimum of elegance . Here's how:

  • A good old pair of New Balance . When you have to watch out for mud, dust, but also the huge feet of the man in front, the New Balance naturally stands out as a good solution.
I chose not to take waterproof shoes, because once inside, the water will not be able to get out. Most New Balance shoes are made of mesh, which dries rather quickly, in addition to being nice to wear. We had already talked about the brand right here:
  • THE P-10 pants from Acronym . This is my favorite of the year, it was impossible for me to make an outdoor outfit without slipping this marvel into it. Ultra-functional with all its practical pockets, its impeccable cut, its big selling point is that it is made of EPIC , a nylon fabric designed by and for the military.
  • A merino wool t-shirt from BonneGueule. Simple and effective, it is easy to adapt. The more time passes, the more this t-shirt becomes a Classic.
  • A Wake overshirt from BonneGueule. Made of organic French cotton, slub effect, it goes well with the technicality of the pants, thanks to its workwear style. Once again, plenty of pockets to put your stuff in. For those curious, here is the difference between a shirt and an overshirt:
  • In case of a little cold, a fleece from the Japanese brand Capital. It keeps you warm, it's original and unusual, it's typically a piece to wear at a festival.
  • An Arcteryx Leaf LT jacket. It's my secret weapon! Very light, thanks to its Gore-Tex composition, the cut of the jacket is perfect, slightly oversized . Once again, it is reminiscent of military clothing, with all these technical aspects, these pockets, this adjustable hood.
