824.

That’s the number of days between the release of our new moccasins and the previous ones.

It’s been more than two years. That’s a long time, especially when you know how much we love moccasins at BonneGueule. Proof of this: in the office, nearly half of the team wears them daily, summer and winter alike (including your humble writer).

So it was time. Our new Wembley moccasins have arrived.

In addition to these moccasins, discover our entire autumn collection right here.

Everything the loafer can bring to your life (and your style)

Jordan, a great ambassador of loafers, has had many opportunities to tell you about his love for them and the reasons why you might fall in love with them too (as they say in Quebec).

For example, check out his guide to finally getting into loafers to convince yourself. And why not also watch his episode of Panache?

Beyond the ease of slipping them on, the biggest strength of loafers is their versatility.

Do you want to add a touch of elegance to a casual outfit made up of a hoodie, t-shirt, or jeans? Wear loafers.

Do you want to emphasize the elegance of a blazer or even a suit without overdoing it? Wear loafers.

Do you like navigating between styles, exploring different nuances of casual chic or workwear chic? Wear loafers.

Its pure, laceless shape blends easily into an outfit. It doesn’t stand out too much, but it’s definitely there—chic and never overdone. A beautiful vision of elegance.

In short, it’s a shoe that sits right in the middle of the formality scale. And being in the middle, that’s the secret to casual chic style. That’s why, just like the soccer ball in Olive & Tom, the loafer is your friend.

The Essential Penny Loafer

The shape of a shoe is its core essence.

And within the loafer family, two major types stand out: the loafer with a more rounded shape, more casual, and the one with a more elongated shape, a bit dressier.

We developed both shapes, and to decide which to choose, we simply asked you on Instagram and Discord. Thousands of votes later, the verdict was clear: the round shape wins. (Lucky for us, it was our favorite too. Thanks to all of you!)

penny loafer development

As for the rest, we offer this loafer in a “penny loafer” version, characterized by the presence of a strap on its vamp. Historically, this strap reinforced the shoe in this area. It also featured a slot, which was purely decorative.

Legend has it that American university students from the Ivy League, who adopted this shoe, had the habit of sliding a 1-cent coin (a “penny”) into the slot. Partly to personalize their shoes, and partly because a penny was enough to make a phone call from a public phone booth if needed.

A Smooth Italian Leather with Vegetable Tanning

Unlike our Apiro loafers from 2022, we dress these loafers in smooth leather, giving them a more chic and distinguished look.

We sourced this leather from an Italian tannery with 70 years of experience, using hides of European origin. Along with its beautiful, regular grain, this leather offers several features that we love:

1/ It is both supple for comfort, yet holds its shape very well.

2/ It’s a vegetable-tanned leather. If you’ve been following us for a while, you’re probably familiar with this term. It means the tanning process is carried out using natural tannins (from plants and bark, for example), making it a slower, more eco-friendly process compared to chrome tanning. Vegetable-tanned leathers develop a subtle patina over time, making them unique as they age.

Two Colors (and Not What You Expected)

We offer these loafers in two colors: black and burgundy.

Yes, you read that right. Our product team convinced Benoît: these are the first black shoes in BonneGueule’s history, and we are proud of them.

A Story of Soles and Comfort

While some shoes can feel stiff during the first wear, that’s not the case here.

Everyone who has tried them agrees (myself included): these shoes are incredibly comfortable. Their secret lies in a hidden feature: there’s a foam pad tucked under the insole, providing surprisingly soft cushioning. This memory foam will mold to the shape of your foot for even more comfort.

And on the outer sole, you’ll find a leather sole. Light, visually slim, and elegant, it softens over time, adding an extra touch of comfort. It’s the traditional option for leather shoes.

I think clothing can be a beautiful means of personal development. I like unstructured jackets, straight pants and loafers.
