A coat for winter: The Duffle coat as seen by David Bowie - Pouch

Un manteau pour l'hiver : Le Duffle-coat vu par David Bowie - Pochette
Each season has its own style and favorite materials. For fall/winter, what could be better than wool or cashmere knits, for example? This is, among other things, what we rediscovered through the wardrobe of the British singer Kate Bush. But the cold season also sees the return of one of the key pieces of our wardrobes: the coat! That's good, there is precisely one that is slowly but surely making a comeback in store windows: the duffle coat.

So, the duffle coat would be back? In the editorial office, David is one of those who willingly bets on this. I probably also owe the latest news from the Gloverall brand to him.

How do I wear it? More of an old school way. Often with a “ The Man Who Came From Elsewhere .” He plays the main role, that of an alien who lands in the middle of the desert landscapes of New Mexico.

A year earlier, he met the American photographer Steve Shapiro. The latter is at the origin of the album covers “ BBC about the cover of “Station To Station”:

Amazing ? Yes and no. David Bowie's creativity has always been very lively, whether on record, on stage or even on screen, particularly on the question of style and clothing. Please note that he is passionate about fashion and curious about everything .

The outfit presented on the cover of the album “Low” can be fully rediscovered in the first minutes of Nicolas Roeg's film: a reworked version of a possible khaki/brown Gloverall duffle coat, an anthracite jumpsuit, a t-shirt white, combat boots and a pair of sunglasses . Eh yes ! You weren't expecting that one?

It's a simple but original outfit . It is also the style tip of a legendary album cover. “Low” forms with “Heroes” and “ That .”

I can only invite you to discover “Low” from the beginning and let yourself be carried away from the first notes of “ Speed of Life ”. If we can't see the entire outfit on the cover, it's really difficult to imagine a better look for an album heading towards new territories .

For the record, regarding David Bowie's outfits at Nicolas Roeg, the film's costume designer May Routh declared to Dazed magazine:

Obviously, if you look at the cover of “Low” and the associated outfit, we are far from the usual image of the duffle coat : no Circle of Missing Poets either. Just a pair of boots and a jumpsuit . It is here, in short, that Jordan intervenes. And this is where you can add a duffle coat rather than a Perfecto, with all the extra layers of warmth (knit, overshirt, etc.) you might need underneath.

You can of course also try the Roll With It .” It’s also a coat with a great story. Perhaps it’s up to you to write yours with it!
