BonneGueule Podcast #12: Brands without intermediaries (Direct to Consumer)

Podcast BonneGueule #12 : Les marques sans intermédiaires (Direct to Consumer)
Tips: What is a “too much” look? Is it always necessarily wrong? Reading BonneGueule Podcast #12: Brands without intermediaries (Direct to Consumer) Next BonneGueule line: Loro Piana wool suits

In recent years, we have seen the emergence of a generation of brands that sell directly to their customers, without being distributed by third parties (DToC for Direct To Consumers). You already know a little bit about them now: SuitSupply , LePantalon , Maison Standards or even Hast ... and even the BonneGueule Line.

It was important for us to remain completely impartial and some of our remarks also apply to ourselves.

In this podcast, we will therefore ask ourselves:

  • what a direct distribution brand is,
  • what are the advantages of a brand distributed in multi-brands,
  • why DToC brands generally opt for simple designs,
  • how they constitute "a first foot in the stirrup" for those interested in clothing,
  • what is one of the best strategies to launch a brand today,
  • if there are marketing “drifts” and what the notion of transparency implies,
  • how margins work in ready-to-wear,
  • what is the danger faced by DToC brands in their margin structure,
  • if the price is the only reason to go to these brands,
  • what is their impact on the rest of the market,
  • how is DToC communicated across the Atlantic,
  • what we can predict for the future, at brand and consumer level.

References discussed

  • Everlane , the pioneer of mid-range DToC,
  • Ledbury , American DToC brand of shirts,
  • Proper Cloth and its personalization service,
  • Away , specialized in luggage,
  • Anonyme Paris , very beautiful brand of leather accessories and jewelry,
  • Brooklinen , which is exploding on the household linen market.

And here are a few more brands in direct distribution in all sectors.

How to listen to BonneGueule podcasts?

For the moment, they are hosted on our Soundcloud channel (to which you can subscribe) which in my opinion is the most practical, whether you are on a computer or a phone.

You'll also find them on iTunes .

How do I listen to the podcast offline on my phone?

Whether you're on an iPhone or an Android phone, it's simple:

  • On iOs : you have an Apple application, installed natively, called “Podcasts”. Simply type “BonneGueule” in the search box, subscribe and, depending on your settings, either our podcasts will download automatically, or you can do so with a simple tap. Apple has made a very well-written guide on using this resourceful application.
  • On Android : there are a plethora of equivalent applications. Simon, the geekiest of the team, uses “ Podcast & Radio Addict ”. The principle is exactly the same: you find BonneGueule in the search field, you subscribe and you download in the application.
  • COMING SOON: the BonneGueule podcast will be on Deezer!

It's your podcast: we're waiting for your suggestions

The format being very easy to create, we are more open than ever to your suggestions for topics . No need for 10 hours of writing and 5 hours of illustrations here: we can be very reactive.

So don't hesitate to suggest your ideas to us, even those that have nothing to do with men's fashion .

If there is a format where we can make small parentheses in terms of the themes covered, it is this one. And then I realized during the Webinar that it was a lot of fun for me to convey things with no obvious link to men's clothing, even if we inevitably come back to it (Geoffrey also likes this exercise).

See you in two weeks for the next podcast.
