Buying guide: Selection of men's hoodies for all budgets

Why ten hoodies? Because I just spent the evening listing lots of them and I have to sort them out at some point. (edit: in the end there aren't 10 at all but too bad, I put this title to make it look like I'm organized - Editor's note: now yes 😉)

You will see that a hoodie is not necessarily a simple hoodie that you use as pajamas.

Dior Homme Hoodies 2008 = yum

Reliable basics for less than 100 euros

Let's start first with small budgets (less than 100 euros): I have to break down open doors and mention American Apparel and its hoodies made in the suburbs of LA, guaranteed sweatshop free (oopah...).

They are good quality, well cut and go almost everywhere, as long as you don't get them in fluorescent yellow. Charcoal gray and navy blue are safe bets. ->

American Apparel Hoodies

If we continue with the basics of less than 100 euros , we will look at American Vintage . Very classic but we're moving upmarket with more elaborate materials and, the brand's great trademark, very subtle pastel colors . It's perfect for making a little elaborate layering, especially combined with tees from the same brand. ->

The originals not too expensive

Now, by looking for originality, we can find a hoodie cardigan: it is a cardigan which simply has a detachable hood. Very practical for subtly varying your outfits. Pretty all-purpose colors too. Above all, it makes a good hoodie with a button closure which is a bit of a change from the zipped one.

I also spotted other original hoodies in the same price range. You'll have to look on ebay.

I really like the color work on this one: the somewhat flashy strap and interior contrast well with the fairly sober tone of these hoodies. I find that these details make all the difference and start us off a bit with the color work ->

An open, high collar that gives a very streetwear touch to the whole piece. We see in this look that it is worn with very elaborate bottoms (drop crotch pants + high-top sneakers) but that it balances the outfit very well. ->

Same with a high collar, to wear in mid-season without anything on top since it seems quite substantial (avoid the big bag effect). Perfect here also for streetwear. ->

An All Saints to end it all. In an outfit that's not too busy and without a jacket on top, it works very well. The "All Saints Vintage" category is also full of good deals, think about taking a look.

High-end basics

With more budget and to grab some great quality, you can go to Lanvin, Dior, Gucci ... Monoprix.

You can find there (at the Reims one in any case, and surely elsewhere since Reims is not really the temple of hype) a very beautiful light gray cashmere hoodie, well cut and for the moment puncture-proof and pill-proof ( I've been wearing it almost every day for a month).

All this for 120 euros.

So, the famous test which placed Monoprix hoodies at the top of cashmere probably didn't lie:

In the same genre, from a less surprising brand, the Acne hoodie ->

Designer hoodies

After the good quality basics, we can be interested in hoodies that are a little more sought after: to be considered with caution since the cuts are already much more sought after:

Draped effect and scooped collar. Quite typical of Unconditional, to wear with for example a superposition of two v-neck t-shirts (for example a gray and a white underneath) ->

A hoodie with Wing+Horns brandenburg closure, a more subtle and more elaborate romantic style, to be worn like a jacket.

In a more classic style, still from Wing + Horns, very very fitted ->

There is also B.Scott who does excellent things for precisely, not much (the quality of the cotton, the softness of the material are simply worth their price) with very nice subtle details (the fairly square cut and not soft, a very oval hoodie collar, a fairly structured impression of the finished product) ->

There you go, we've kept our promise with this selection of men's hoodies, to help you see things more clearly... and put an end to big fleecy university hoodies.

Good shopping,
Val

Did you learn anything?

You can choose:

  • We light a candle in the nearest Raellian Church/Temple/Mosque/Brotherhood.

or else...

  • Make a (small) effort to develop your wardrobe without losing money, and discover the Guide to the Stylish Even Unshaven Man . I admit I prefer the second solution: you will congratulate yourself later.
