Welcome to our new summer format!
After the presentation of the team's suitcases last summer, the idea is the same in Checklist, but on video: showing you what we take in our vacation suitcases, what clothes and why.
And for this first episode, it's me who inaugurates this format with my suitcase for the Basque country, in Saint-Jean-de-Luz more precisely.
Here is the context:
- 10 days with seven friends
- we rented an apartment in the center of Saint Jean de Luz, a charming little Basque town
Important point: since we are going to stay 10 days, I have no concerns about minimalism or traveling ultra light, because I am not going to Mongolia for three weeks with the constraint of a 30 liter backpack.
Here, I can afford to be a little greedy when it comes to the number of clothes.
Weather wise:
- the weather being quite unpredictable in the Basque Country, you must therefore plan for a bit of rain…
- the evenings can also be quite cool, this must be taken into account too.
Let's go !
For more addresses in the Basque Country, our podcast Les Congés Paés is ideal.
1. BonneGueule chambray shirt
Because I take it wherever I go and it won't change. I'm not going to repeat the argument for you on the versatility of chambray, you know it by heart.
I can wear it with a blazer, an overshirt, shorts, chinos, in short, with everything. It is therefore a perfect piece for the holidays.
2. Two Bernard Zins chinos
I love them ! I love the fit, they're light in color, very comfortable, and whenever I'm at least five days somewhere warm, I take both.
3. BonneGueule shark collar shirt
Not that this shirt was designed for a stay in the Basque country, but we're not far from it...
4. Loro Piana White Pants
It is light and above all very comfortable, because it has a little stretch. I bought it in an outlet store during a trip to Italy, during the filming of our video at Candiani.
At the same time, I was able to visit a Loro Piana factory where the material had been woven, which means that I am very attached to these pants.
5. Officine Générale denim shirt
In the Basque Country, it can sometimes be a little cool in the evening, so having a slightly thicker shirt is not a luxury.
It is patinating nicely, and the roughness of this Japanese fabric corresponds well to Basque values.
6. BonneGueule Ventilated Jacket
It's a painful truth to admit, but for 10 days in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, there is a 95% chance of rain, so you need rain gear.
The problem is that it is a relatively hot and humid climate, which makes the waterproof membranes quickly stifling. This is where this 100% cotton Ventile fabric comes into its own.
7. BonneGueule “travel tech” bomber jacket
This piece always does me a great service when I take it, it has a great weight, lightness and comfort ratio. Perfect for hiking in the Basque mountains or taking an evening stroll along the beach.
8. My two pairs of espadrilles
I take not one, but TWO pairs of espadrilles:
- the Escadrilles because this brand is incredibly comfortable, I can walk a day without any problem with it
- Don Quichosse because they also have a left foot differentiated from the right foot, which is significant for comfort.
10. Colorful Melinda Gloss Shirt
Because you always need a colorful shirt on vacation that you could never wear anywhere else!
11. Bonus: an Aïzea bull leather belt
Who says Basque coast says… Aïzea, this brand of leather goods that I really like!
The founder Joakin is Basque and I hope to say hello to him during my stay…
And so obviously, I need a belt in bull leather tanned in the Basque country created by a brand founded by a Basque. So the circle is closed...
Since it's the holidays, I want a color that's a little fun and original, so my choice is the orange bull calf.
