Masculine/feminine: a short history of shared style – Carte blanche to Jérôme

Masculin/féminin : une petite histoire du style en partage – Carte blanche à Jérôme

A quick glance into the entrance to the apartment. This is where I store jackets, scarves and coats . It's a real mess. But it's alive, even though sometimes you have to search a little to find the right color scarf or the jacket that goes well.

Small bouquet of brands at this location for the fall/winter season: Percival Clothing , BonneGueule, Officine Générale , Man1924 , Gloverall , Begg & Co , A Kind Of Guise ... I really like what this last brand does even if I don't own any pieces from them.

I like their style, the work on materials, the mischief and the touch of mystery that sometimes emerges from it, like here above. My partner, on the other hand, has several A Kind Of Guise pieces: wool workwear jackets, pants , etc.

And imagine that in the hall, there is just one of those burgundy wool work jackets that has been catching my eye for some time. It's an S, which she wears very loosely. Who knows, maybe it could work for me?

No one on the right, no one on the left. The cat looks at me with a knowing look, as if to say “go ahead my guy, I’ve got your back”. So I try on the piece neither seen nor known and suddenly it's a revelation: not only is it a very beautiful piece, but above all it suits me too, in a more fitted way, almost like a shirt.

A Kind Of Guise jacket, Editions MR shirt and BonneGueule pants.

It inspires me in a few seconds several cool outfits with blue, gray and cordovan moccasins . I'm lost in my thoughts when a voice arises: "Hey, but you're not going to steal my jacket, anyway!!?"

Must see. This would be interesting, and perhaps even more economical for pieces like these. Just imagine: a jacket for two! Does this mean that the exchange of clothes between men and women can work both ways?

If we start looking at things differently, anything is possible. You can therefore share some of your favorite brands with your partner.

That's good: I'm interested in men's fashion but also in women's fashion and for good reason: my partner shares with me this strange passion for clothing . How did we get here ? I don't know. But you have to believe that it is very contagious - after all, even the cat is interested in material compositions.

You may have already noticed that I have been slipping women's looks into my Bobine for some time now. If not, you can pick up the thread from Lauren Bacall and this thread on espadrilles:

Workwear, dressy or casual: espadrilles style in the cinema – Reel

None of this is entirely a coincidence. Of course, BonneGueule is now a mixed brand and it is quite normal to also open our content to women's fashion. But from a more personal point of view, it excites me just as much.

An example ? You just have to take a look at the Instagram page of the Australian brand Caves Collect to understand that there are absolutely all the elements combined in a clothing brand to arouse my interest:

The universe is personal, clothes are beautiful , the looks and the photographs are successful and a little extra to which I am far from being indifferent, the brand also distributes its share of well-chosen inspirations . Architecture, design, nature and various forms of art, such as painting for example.

I was already convinced of this before arriving at BonneGueule. I think it even more today: there is no such thing as off-topic with clothing . It can be connected to everything: to the body, to the mind, to art, health, education, politics, nature or the economy. And of course, it is both very intimate and universal.

It is thus a beautiful way to reach out to others, to exchange and to sometimes transcend the boundaries of gender a little .

This is essentially what Déborah Sitbon Neuberg explained in Déclic, about her brand De Bonne Facture when she talked about its women's capsule.

Result: a De Bonne Facture men's ecru turtleneck can find its way into the women's wardrobe . But there are many other more specifically men's brands that women can easily reinvest in certain pieces.

At home, we share a lot of brands and some clothes. Starting with those of BonneGueule. Note that my partner did not wait for the women's collection to buy and wear BonneGueule clothes. In her wardrobe, for example, there is our first women's raw jeans, our Jade or Nara jackets:

But there are also pieces from our men's wardrobe: chambray shirt, parka, Noragi.

Among other mixed brands that we can share together, I can also mention 45-R of which I own a few shirts and she has a few tops and other dresses.

Do you also share your favorite brands with your partner or more generally with your female friends and acquaintances? So to you too, we might also steal a few pieces here or there . You may even be asked for some advice on good brands to follow. And why not ?

“Masculine/feminine” can also be a style. Women have been practicing it for a long time. Men too in a way except that we have most probably forgotten. This is where History , cinema, all these little things that reconnect us with our history and forge links with the present come in.

So of course, investing in women's fashion when you're a man is perhaps a bit more complicated than the other way around. Question of style, morphology, cut, etc. But on some parts, it's not impossible either. The A Kind Of Guise jacket mentioned above is a good example. And you, have you already tried?
