An immediate favorite
If I tell you that a piece of clothing changed my life , do you believe me? Okay, I'm exaggerating a bit, but trust me: the story is worth it.
September 8. A day like any other for some, a symbolic day for others - and when I say "others", I include myself in the group. You will have understood, if I remember this date so precisely, it is because it is very important to me. And for those who are wondering, no it is not that of
5:50 p.m. Paris, 2nd arrondissement. Under the blazing sun, accompanied by my favorite manager (hi Nawal), we decide to go hunting in a vintage store not far from our offices . A few minutes later, and a few racks turned over, Nawal said to me: “Hey oooh, Quentin! I think I found the PART you need”.
Curious and excited, I rush towards her to discover the famous nugget. As I get closer to Nawal, I quickly understand what it is: a vintage mac. It's been several months since I told anyone who would listen that I was looking for an overcoat of this type . And here it is finally, before my eyes. It's beautiful, it's loose, it's beige, it's Made in France and dates, visibly, from the 1980s. I put it on and it's as if it's just waiting for me because of its cut falls as it should. In short, it is perfect.
Although I fell in love immediately, it nevertheless took me a little time to make this “dad style” piece my own. We're not going to lie to each other, at 23, this isn't necessarily the image we want to project. The mac, timeless and elegant, can lead you to believe that it is only worn at face value. But I quickly realized that I could twist it and relax it , adapt it to my desires...
From there, it became a real tool to develop my style.
Very positive feedback
It must be said that the very moment I wore it for the first time, the feedback was unanimous and more than encouraging : “This mac fits you like a glove”; “Wahouuuu, Quentin your style has evolved enormously, it’s cool”; “But this coat is magnificent, where does it come from?”...
Although we may say that opinions affect us very little, when they are positive, it necessarily reassures us in our choices.
So I quickly started to gain confidence, pairing it with different outfits and accessories in my wardrobe. Looking back, I tell myself that the first attempts were not a complete success, but that doesn't matter. I'm just starting my stylistic exploration, I want to try everything, try everything. If I don't do it now, when will I do it?
Here, for example, is one of my first looks with my vintage mac. I associated it with:
- a navy blue Tommy Hilfiger sweater that I bought on Vinted
- a blue and white striped cotton shirt
- Renji bleach jeans from BonneGueule
- Paraboot model Michael
- printed socks
So yes, the outfit is very classic, but it works. To be honest I wouldn't reproduce it today. Not for a question of taste, but more for a question of style .
For a few months now, September to be precise, my desires and my sartorial expectations have evolved enormously. I try to push my style with accessories, to turn to looser cuts and more interesting volumes, to combine different materials to bring textures and contrasts to my outfit... The Quentin of 2022 n It therefore has nothing to do with that of 2023 (in terms of style, I mean). And you understand, my precious mac has a lot to do with it. It allowed me to explore horizons without taking risks (this is the advantage of timeless classics), to integrate new clothes with ease and relaxation (like, for example, the orange Manarola moumoute vest from BonneGueule ). It has become an essential piece of my wardrobe .
Besides, if you would like to know more about my stylistic evolution of late, I wrote an article on this subject:
Wear the mac every day
Eight months later, after braving wind, rain, sleet... my vintage mac continues its journey by my side . My experimentation phase is now over, so it's time for me to show you some of my favorite looks , mixing the different styles and inspirations that speak to me.
Look 1: when the pimp goes streetwear
I didn't think I'd say this one day, but the mac is truly a piece made for streetwear style . It may be surprising, but its cut, length and material work perfectly with urban clothing.
Before starting, a little clarification: for this outfit I borrowed our new Glencoe mac released on April 6 - I was very intrigued by its
My main piece in this first look is, you guessed it, the mac. With its color that changes from the usual beige, it immediately catches the eye. And that's very good, we must maintain this attraction.
I liven up the rest of the outfit with neutral tones, like our trucker sweater with a generous collar from BonneGueule - the Matera model, from our collaboration with Paul Binam . Its light gray color brings a more than welcome touch of light. Its material, 100% merino wool from Zegna Baruffa , creates a contrast with the windproof fabric of the Glencoe mac.
At the bottom, I opt for vintage charcoal gray pleated wool pants, which I found... also, with Nawal. Its scale corresponds to that of the mac. Beyond the design aspect, it is extremely comfortable - it doesn't itch at all!
As for the shoes, I chose New Balances v990 v3 in collaboration with Teddy Santis - obviously to give a more street touch to the look.
To hide this questionable haircut, my green BonneGueule hat does the trick very well. It subtly recalls the color of the shoes , it's a good option in my opinion.
Now for the little tips.
- I also advise you to carry the mac casually on your shoulders. The result is very nice.
- Accessorize the outfit as much as possible to give it a more original side. Here, a banana does the trick.

Look 2: sun, come back!
I promise, this time, no more cheating. This outfit is beautifully enhanced by my vintage mac. I decided to do a more spring look, with seasonal colors.
My mac is even bigger and wider than BonneGueule's , so it requires subsequent cuts. My first choice is our khaki Soajo hoodie, its loose side goes perfectly with my overcoat.
For the bottom, I stay in the same vein, that is to say a loose cut. The white jeans help brighten up the outfit , they do the job very well.
I also wanted to give a more “rustic” and “raw” side to the whole thing. For that, I put on my Paraboot Michael, already presented above.
And as the sun is back, a small pair of sunglasses is recommended. I take the first one that comes to my hand, from the Salt brand.

There you have it, the Mac is really my discovery in recent months. I wear it with everything, all the time, and it's pure joy .
