Last year, we released a suit, where you can wear a mismatched jacket and pants, in a fabulous material for summer: the "Summertime" range from Italian supplier Loro Piana which mixes wool, linen and silk.
This is a long-awaited restocking, particularly for the pants, which was a huge success, with a very quick sell-out.
And the least we can say is that you loved this special fabric:
So we decided to make it in blue, because we had a lot of requests for the same fabric in another color.
Here's a little reminder about this fabric that I love...
A beautiful blend of wool, linen and silk
Over time, it's a material that I've been able to test intensively, and it's by far my favorite "summer" material:
- the weave is open and well ventilated,
- and the blend of wool, linen and silk together gives a magnificent heather
I'm such a fan of this range of "Summertime" fabrics from Loro Piana, that from now on, all my summer suits are in this material (I have three).
And some have also been won over:
Here is its composition:
-
merino wool (71%) which provides softness and the usual properties of wool: quick drying, insulation. Oh, and it’s mulesing free wool!
- silk (15%), source of lightness and shine,
- and linen (14%) to give a “fresh” and airy appearance to the fabric.
These three mixed materials also provide a rich and mottled texture.
It's a weight of 167 g/m², perfectly suited for a hot summer day.
Better yet, it's a material that reconciled me with the blazer in summer. Besides, I wore the gray blazer a lot last summer, with a lot of compliments on this piece.
In terms of creasing, it's completely reasonable, I was able to do a season's worth of weddings without needing to take it to the dry cleaner.
The fact that wool is the majority in this fabric drastically reduces the crease properties of linen.
A new color in heather blue
Like gray, this blend of wool, silk, and linen gives a very beautiful irregular appearance, with a lot of personality.
Navy blue, petrol blue, and turquoise blue mix in nuance, and I must say that Loro Piana has found a perfect balance between heather and uniformity.
Assembled as a jacket, this fabric makes a superb summer blazer for those who want a “pimped out” and summery version of a predominantly blue blazer.
As for the pants, they're a nice alternative to yet another blue chino, for example.
In short, if you haven't yet tasted the pleasure of this Loro Piana fabric, I guarantee that these pieces will be your favorite clothes when the temperatures rise.
A light, light jacket…
Here is THE photo that left its mark:
This gives you a good idea of how "airy" this fabric is.
Some might think that it is a transparent fabric: it is not. Unless you have glow-in-the-dark underwear, you won't see anything through your jacket or pants.
To get a video preview of this material, watch this episode of Parlons Clothes where I wear the jacket.
The finishes of our jackets
I had already detailed them in the article presenting the gray suit , here they are again:
- the jacket is unlined and the construction of this jacket is one of the lightest our workshop can make,
- it is a semi-canvassed jacket,
- there is an American facing: the outer fabric "returns" to the inside of the jacket, at the front panels (there is no lining fabric) it is a high-end finish and which looks great effect when you take off the jacket,
- patch pocket, which are very practical to use, and more relaxed than classic pockets
Comfortable pants
Ah those pants! There was incredible enthusiasm and we ended up with a very quick and unexpected sellout.
It’s a piece that was very acclaimed and you really appreciated its summery side:
Anecdotally, some have even worn these pants to their own wedding… or to attend as a guest!
It has an elastic waistband for maximum comfort .
Some were sometimes "concerned" about using these pants in a more formal/dressy setting such as a wedding. Don't worry: the pants have belt loops , just wear one to hide the drawstrings and the elastic waistband.
And what about the cut?
It has a so-called "carrot" cut, so with a little fullness at the thighs , just to have air circulating between your legs.
Speaking of which, the thighs are unlined, unlike some suit pants. Breathability we tell you!
A little reminder that is good: drawstrings are Japanese and have a beautiful history:
I never thought I would write a paragraph about a drawstring, but now I have things to tell you!
Usually, the drawstring is the supply that must be as inexpensive as possible among brands. Except that we wanted a drawstring that matched perfectly with the gray of our Loro Piana fabric.
We might as well tell you that we struggled, as the market is overwhelmed by a cheap offer, made of polyester, without much soul.
We ended up finding our happiness with the Japanese (obviously), with the supplier Shindo, specialized in ribbons and cords, which has the particularity of having a vertically integrated production process .
The result ? A beautifully heathered 100% cotton drawstring like I've never seen before. I guarantee you'll want to show it off rather than hiding it in your pants.
And for the record, Shindo's Parisian showroom (and open to the public) is located on a street parallel to our offices. As it turns out, everything was under our noses from the start.
If you want to know more about Shindo, "Chic and Geek" has published a richly illustrated article . Their website is well documented and translated into English, take advantage of it!
In short, this is the kind of detail that many actors don't care about, but not us!
Come on, one last one for the road:
How to wear these jackets and pants?
Important note
I did not want to overload this article, so if you would like to see outfits with the gray suit, I invite you to review the article presenting the gray suit , with outfits superbly worn by Mattia.
In a suit, with a t-shirt and sneakers
Sartorial art purists will jump to the ceiling, but know that I really like to twist a suit to wear it with very casual pieces, like sneakers and a t-shirt in this case:
With alpacas, chinos and espadrilles
Blazer + espadrilles = a big win in summer, it's one of my favorite combinations. And if you have an alpaca with you, it's even better:
With an overshirt and a white t-shirt
Among the most casual clothes that are easy to wear, the overshirt is one of them, and ours in Japanese fabric goes nicely with the Summertime heather from Loro Piana.
With a shirt and sneakers
Obviously, with such a summery fabric, we want lightness, like this seersucker shirt placed on our cotton linen t-shirt. And a good pair of espadrilles for summer?
