After literally months of waiting, it's finally here!
Or rather, there they are: our 4 summer pants in collaboration with Informale, 100% linen, and made in Melbourne.
Here we go for the presentation, they are in four colors.
WHY COLLABORATION WITH INFORMALE?
Firstly because it is a brand where we really like this style which is both relaxed and with nods to the sartorial world . It's a mix very influenced by the relaxed side of Melbourne.
Moreover, everything is said in the name of the brand: Informale, for the informal obviously, but also this diversion of dressy elements in a casual context.
Steve Calder, the charismatic founder of Informale.
And also because we really connected with the founder, Steve , who perfectly embodies his brand and the “cool” side of Melbourne. He's someone who already has a lot of experience in men's clothing and he's very specific about what he wants.
That’s good, I love passionate people!
Important (and surprising) point: most of the clothes in his collection are made in Melbourne ! It's a small workshop that Steve works closely with and the pants for this collaboration are also made there .
To discover Informale and Steve its founder in detail, absolutely reread his interview in our columns!
WHY PANTS?
Because it is one of Informale's flagship pieces with its straight, elegant and relaxed cut, with a drawstring at the waist. Many outfits have circulated quite a bit on Instagram with this type of pants.
Having worn Informale pants for a long time last year, I told myself that Steve's vision of this piece had a complete place in our summer wardrobe.
And that was good, because I've been wanting to launch 100% linen pants for a long time. And so we had to find THE linen fabric to have that “firm” but at the same time airy hand, so characteristic of quality linen…
Moccasins to come, BonneGueule t-shirt and safari jacket.
A DURABLE 100% LINEN FABRIC (240 G/M2)
To create this collaboration, the timing was not the best because it was right at the time when our entire industry was disrupted by Covid , with cascading stock shortages.
But for all that, we found a 100% linen fabric from Brisbane Moss, an English supplier that has existed since 1858 . Since linen requires special machinery, it was spun, woven and dyed in its factory in Lithuania.
You wouldn't necessarily expect to find 100% linen from an English weaver, who is more experienced in thick wool flannels or very thick velvets, and yet...
As surprising as it may seem, there is an English side in the hand of this linen fabric: it has a good presence in the hand, it is thick while being airy, and it has a much cleaner drape than a shirt in linen.
BonneGueule espadrilles and polo shirt .
And that's what I liked about this fabric: when wearing it, I found it really breathable, which lets air circulate well (especially when there's a little summer breeze!), while having a structured fall.
The weight is 240 g/m2 for a solid fabric completely suitable for pants.
DOES IT WRINKLE?
The famous question that everyone asks when it comes to linen!
So having tested this fabric quite a bit last summer, I think I have a good overview. So yes, there will be more creases than with cotton pants but as the fabric has a certain thickness and good hold, it continues to fit well.
And of all the linen fabrics that I have tested/worn, it is clear that it is one of the fabrics that creases the least.
Even if it's linen, I assure you that the way the fabric hangs has little to do with entry-level linen pants that wrinkle all the time.
I would add that it is part of the charm of linen to wrinkle . And the wearer of these pants must expect and even expect it. Linen creases and it's not a big deal.
TROUSERS IN FOUR COLORS
1. A SOFT, LIGHT YELLOW
For this shade, we wanted a very light and summery yellow, which recalls the light of a vacation day in the sun. A color not usually present in men's collections, it will be perfect if you want to go further than white or blue pants.
2. A VERY VERSATILE OLIVE GREEN
This olive shade from Brisbane Moss is stunning, and you know my love of colors like this. It is the versatile option, because the possible combinations are numerous.
3. A TIMELESS NAVY BLUE
The color for those who want to lay the first bricks of their summer wardrobe or quite simply for those who want to choose discreet and timeless elegance.
4. A BRIGHT ECRU
A detail of the natural mottled ecru fabric.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES FROM OTHER INFORMALE PANTS?
1. A PAISLEY PATTERN IN THE POCKETS
We wanted to continue with this paisley pattern fabric that we like so much, so it is used for the pockets of these pants!
2. ONE BUTTON TO OPEN THE PANTS
There is a button to open and close the fly, which makes putting these pants on very easy.
However, this is a feature absent from other Informale linen pants which, for some, sometimes require a little bit of contortion when putting them on.
Yes, it's a Swiss Riri zip that equips each pants!
3. A NEW CUT
Yes, it’s a new haircut for Informale! I reassure you, we are sticking with straight pants, and Steve was very clear : he did not want fitted pants for this collaboration.
So we found a compromise: usually, his pants have a leg opening of 21 cm, and on our collaboration, it is 20 cm. To find out how the pants fit in real life, look at the photos which are very faithful to reality.
That's it for the details about these pants, and I'll now let David show you the outfits he put together for the occasion!
HOW TO WEAR THESE PANTS? (BY DAVID)
BonneGueule x Informale pants are very versatile.
They will fit into all your spring and summer outfits, whether casual, formal or somewhere in between.
Mattia wears size 48 and Paul wears size 50.
1. YELLOW, STAND OUT
With its light and fairly soft shade, these yellow pants are worn almost like beige.
So I thought of pairing it with white, blue and brown.
In addition to the striped t-shirt, I thought of the jacket created by Jordan.
Its deliberately wide cut goes hand in hand with the rather straight pants and its slightly short length is balanced by the fairly high waist of the pants.
On your feet, put whatever you want. Moccasins, boat shoes, sneakers... play your games!
Let's keep it simple and do it right with a navy blue Japanese cotton t-shirt and beige espadrilles.
This yellow and blue contrast works every time.
Tucking in the t-shirt is a gimmick that I like because it structures the silhouette and highlights the drawstring and pleats of the pants.
Newtim t-shirt
This look was imagined by Paul on the day of the shoot. We gave him carte blanche and here is his proposal.
He takes an unexpected path by combining these pants with green and burgundy.
Note that the intensity of green and yellow are quite close, they respond to each other.
Paul dares to use color for a very interesting result.
2. OLIVE GREEN: THE TWO-IN-ONE, ALL-TERRAIN OPTION
Australian relaxation means combining these olive green pants with:
- an off-white shirt with an officer collar, worn in a cool way: sleeves rolled up and out of the pants
- beige espadrilles
A simple outfit but with just the right amount of sophistication to stand out.
It's easy: tuck the shirt into the pants, put a blazer on top and that's it.
The high waist, the pleats and the central pleat allow the pants to have their place in slightly more chic looks. Versatility I tell you!
3. NAVY BLUE: AS OBVIOUS
First of all, a monochrome look with a blue popover slightly lighter than the pants. Espadrilles bring a little contrast to the end of the silhouette.
The most knowledgeable among you will note that this outfit is a nod to what Steve Calder can offer in terms of styling. 😉
Newtim t-shirt, Nazare sneakers
Then, a contrasting look with a terracotta t-shirt which contrasts very nicely with the navy blue. The result is flattering for the retina. This type of fairly warm color fits very well.
The light canvas sneakers soberly finish the outfit.
4. ECRU: AND THERE WAS LIGHT
Cyril t-shirt, Kenobi jacket, moccasins coming out (very) soon
The sailor-style t-shirt is the perfect alternative to the white t-shirt. The stripes provide contrast to the ecru pants. The linen and ramie safari jacket fits perfectly into this outfit: material, color, style, it's a match !
And moccasins are because they go with everything, especially light-colored pants.
Berni T-shirt
Ecru pants, gray t-shirt... we could almost have ended up
But I choose burgundy moccasins, to bring a little pep to the whole look.
THE ESSENTIAL SIZE GUIDE!
Please note, given the elasticated waistband of the pants, the flat measurement will necessarily be narrower than when the pants are worn.
