After literally months of waiting, it's finally here!
Or rather, they are here: our 4 summer pants in collaboration with Informale, 100% linen, and made in Melbourne.
Here we go for the presentation, they are in four colors.
WHY COLLABORATE WITH INFORMALE?
Firstly because it is a brand whose style we really like, both casual and with nods to the sartorial universe . It is a mix very influenced by the relaxed side of Melbourne.
Besides, everything is said in the name of the brand: Informale, for the informal obviously, but also this diversion of dressed elements in a casual context.
Steve Calder, the charismatic founder of Informale.
And also because we really connected with the founder, Steve , who perfectly embodies his brand and the "cool" side of Melbourne. He is someone who already has a good experience in men's clothing and he is very precise about what he wants.
That’s good, I love passionate people!
Important (and surprising) point: most of the clothes in his collection are made in Melbourne ! It's a small workshop that Steve works closely with and the pants in this collaboration are also made there .

WHY PANTS?
Because it is one of the flagship pieces of Informale with its straight, elegant and casual cut, with the presence of a drawstring at the waist. Many outfits have circulated quite a bit on Instagram with this type of pants.
Having worn a pair of Informale pants for a long time last year, I thought Steve's take on this piece would definitely fit into our summer wardrobe.
And that was good, because I had been wanting to launch a pair of 100% linen trousers for a long time. And so I had to find THE linen fabric to have that "firm" but at the same time airy feel, so characteristic of quality linen...
Coming soon moccasins, BonneGueule t-shirt and safari jacket.
A DURABLE 100% LINEN FABRIC (240 G/M2)
To create this collaboration, the timing was not the best because it was right at the time when our entire industry was disrupted by Covid , with cascading stock shortages.
But still, we found a 100% linen fabric from Brisbane Moss, an English supplier that has been around since 1858. Since linen requires special machinery, it was spun, woven and dyed in their mill in Lithuania.
You wouldn't necessarily expect to find 100% linen from an English weaver, who is more used to thick wool flannels or very thick velvets, and yet...
Surprisingly, there is an English quality to the feel of this linen fabric: it has a good presence in the hand, it is thick yet airy, and it drapes much more crisply than a linen shirt.
BonneGueule espadrilles and polo shirt .
And that's what I liked about this fabric: when I wore it, I found it really breathable, allowing air to circulate well (especially when there's a little summer breeze!), while having a structured drape.
The weight is 240 g/m2 for a solid fabric completely suitable for trousers.
DOES IT WRINKLE?
The famous question that everyone asks when it comes to linen!
So, having tested this fabric quite a bit last summer, I think I have a good idea. So yes, there will be more creases than with cotton pants , but as the fabric has a certain thickness and good hold, it continues to fall well.
And of all the linen fabrics I have tested/worn, it is clear that it is one of the fabrics that creases the least.
Even though it's linen, I assure you that the drape of the fabric has little to do with entry-level linen pants that crease all the time.
I would add that it is part of the charm of linen to crease . And the wearer of these pants should expect it and even expect it. Linen creases and it is not a big deal.
A PAIR OF PANTS IN FOUR COLORS
1. A SOFT AND LIGHT YELLOW
For this shade, we wanted a very light and summery yellow, reminiscent of the light of a day of vacation in the sun. A color not usually present in men's collections, it will be perfect if you want to go further than white or blue pants.
2. A VERY VERSATILE OLIVE GREEN
This olive shade of Brisbane Moss is gorgeous, and you know my love for colors like this. It's the versatile option, as there are so many possible combinations.
3. A TIMELESS NAVY BLUE
The color for those who want to lay the first bricks of their summer wardrobe or simply for those who want to choose discreet and timeless elegance.
4. A BRIGHT ECRU
A detail of the natural mottled ecru fabric.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES WITH OTHER INFORMALE PANTS?
1. A PAISLEY PATTERN IN THE POCKETS
We wanted to continue with this paisley pattern fabric that we like so much, so it is used for the pockets of these pants!
2. A BUTTON TO OPEN THE PANTS
There is a button to open and close the fly, which makes putting on these pants very easy.
However, this is a feature absent from other Informale linen trousers , which for some sometimes require a little contortion when putting them on.
Yes, it’s a Riri Swiss zip that equips each pair of pants!
3. A NEW CUT
Yes, it's a new cut for Informale! Rest assured, we're sticking with straight pants, and Steve was very clear : he didn't want fitted pants for this collaboration.
So we found a compromise: usually, his pants have a leg opening of 21 cm, and on our collaboration, it is 20 cm. To know how the pants fall in real life, look at the photos which are very faithful to reality.
That's it for the details about these pants, and I'll now let David show you the outfits he put together for the occasion!
HOW TO WEAR THESE PANTS? (BY DAVID)
The BonneGueule x Informale pants are very versatile.
They will fit into all your spring and summer outfits, whether casual, formal or in between.
Mattia wears size 48 and Paul wears size 50.
1. YELLOW, STAND OUT
With its light and fairly soft shade, these yellow pants are worn almost like beige.
So I thought of pairing it with white, blue and brown.
In addition to the striped t-shirt, I thought about the jacket created by Jordan.
Its deliberately wide cut goes hand in hand with the rather straight trousers and its slightly short length is balanced by the fairly high waist of the trousers.
On your feet, wear whatever you want. Loafers, boat shoes, sneakers... take your pick!
Let's keep it simple and do it right with a navy blue Japanese cotton t-shirt and beige sneakers.
This yellow and blue contrast works every time.
Tucking in the t-shirt is a gimmick I like because it helps structure the silhouette and highlights the drawstring and pleats of the pants.
Newtim T-shirt
This look was imagined by Paul on the day of the shoot. We gave him carte blanche and here is his proposal.
He takes an unexpected path by pairing these pants with green and burgundy.
Note that the intensity of green and yellow are quite close, they respond to each other.
Paul dares to use color for a very interesting result.
2. OLIVE GREEN: THE TWO-IN-ONE, ALL-TERRAIN OPTION
Australian casual style means pairing these olive green pants with:
- an ecru shirt with an officer collar, worn cool: sleeves rolled up and out of the pants
- beige espadrilles
A simple outfit but with just the right amount of sophistication to stand out.
It's easy: tuck the shirt into your pants, put a blazer on top and you're done.
The high waist, the darts and the central pleat allow the pants to have their place in slightly more chic looks. Versatility I tell you!
3. NAVY BLUE: OBVIOUS
First, a monochrome look with a blue popover slightly lighter than the pants. The espadrilles bring a little contrast to the end of the silhouette.
The more knowledgeable among you will notice that this outfit is a nod to what Steve Calder can offer in terms of styling. 😉
Newtim t-shirt, Nazare sneakers
Then, a contrasting look with a terracotta t-shirt that contrasts very nicely with the navy blue. The result is flattering for the retina. This type of fairly warm color fits in very well.
The light canvas sneakers finish off the outfit in a sober way.
4. ECRU: AND THERE WAS LIGHT
Cyril T-shirt, Kenobi jacket, moccasins coming out (very) soon
The sailor-style t-shirt is the perfect alternative to a white t-shirt. The stripes add contrast to the ecru trousers. The linen and ramie safari jacket fits perfectly into this outfit: material, colour, style, it's a match !
And loafers are because they go with everything, especially light-colored pants.
Berni T-shirt
Ecru pants, gray t-shirt... we could almost have finished with black shoes to have an outfit in shades of gray.
But I choose burgundy loafers, to add a bit of pep to the whole thing.
THE ESSENTIAL SIZE GUIDE!
Please note that given the elasticated waistband of the pants, the flat measurement will necessarily be narrower than when the pants are worn.
