MEASUREMENTS TO KNOW WHEN CHOOSING TROUSERS / JEANS

Here's a tip that will make your life easier: if you want to buy pants without being able to try them on (which happens), having noted the measurements of the ones that fit you best will allow you to buy the right size.

Take your measuring tapes!

I advise you to watch the video that Tom created for you, it's all there!

Let's recap now.

1. LEG LENGTH

The first mark is under the belt, we will follow it all along the leg to finish at its end at ankle level.

2. PANTS WIDTH

The width of the pants corresponds to the waist measurement divided by two (we will see this measurement later).

Good mouth

You can take this measurement yourself but don't cheat by tucking in your stomach

3. THIGH WIDTH

We start from the intersection of the leg, at the end of the fork, then place the tape perpendicularly. This is a measurement that you will not need often, but which is good to know if you are moving towards custom.

NB: pants in your size will fit the curve of your thigh without molding it.

4. LEG OPENING

At the end of the pants, place the tape measure from one end of the leg to the other to find this measurement. It is obviously adjustable for alterations depending on your style but we advise, on jeans, to range between 17 and 19 cm.

If you don't have the right size piece on hand...no worries! Here's how to take your measurements...

HOW TO TAKE MEASURES ?

1. WAIST CIRCLE

Also called "waist circumference", this measurement corresponds to the horizontal circumference of the body measured at the hollowest point of your abdomen, which is located a little above or below your navel.

If you only knew one measurement, it would be this.

NB : The width of the pants (seen above) corresponds to half of your waist measurement.

2. CROTCH LENGTH

The inseam length, good to know, is not necessary when choosing pants but can help you if you choose jeans that have an American size.

This measurement determines the length of the pants from the top of the inner thigh to the bottom of the leg.

THE FR AND US SIZE CHART TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT SIZE FROM YOUR MEASUREMENTS

Now that you have all your measurements, here is the table to convert them into pant sizes:

US pants sizes include additional information on their label: the length.

Indeed, you may have noticed that American pants sizes take the following form: 30W 32L.

Here is a table to convert your inseam length to L.

Example: If you have a waist measurement of 84cm and an inseam length of 78cm, the US pant size that should fit you best is W33 L30.

But to be sure of the choice of size according to the brand, you can contact its customer service directly.

NB : don't worry, the length of pants is very easy to alter.

THE DETAILS THAT SHOW YOU THAT JEANS / PANTS ARE THE RIGHT SIZE (AND OTHER TIPS)

When trying on pants in store, pay attention to the following points to make sure they fit you like a glove:

Important points when trying on pants or jeans:

  1. The buttocks must be supported: the material does not sag. If you need a belt, the pants are too big,
  2. No excess material in the crotch,
  3. The cut must be sufficiently adjusted, without molding you,
  4. The pants do not bend more than once when breaking on the shoe.
