Summer is coming: for many this justifies the search for the least effort, namely the t-shirt/jeans (or shorts)/sneakers . However, unless it's really hot, there are still some really original things to do if you take the trouble.
For me, the first element that will most easily differentiate you in spring and summer is the jacket . Elegant and easy to wear , it leaves more freedom than you might think and fits into many different outfits. With this guide, if you only need one piece, you should save a man's makeover.
The specificities of spring-summer
As usual, we will study each of the possible combinations and give several examples.
Two colors are chosen in particular: of course light gray which remains a reference both in summer and in winter because it allows you to easily create contrast but also blue , a more original alternative.
In most of the photos in this article, you will see jackets worn with their sleeves rolled up : this is particularly suitable in summer and you can either do it yourself (which is not really difficult, even if the packing of the sleeve leaves passes less air and makes it warmer), or you can buy jackets with mid-length sleeves.
Put these tips into practice
In any case, I invite you to come back Sunday evening for the purchasing guide which accompanies this article and will allow you to put these tips into practice.
( Update: it is now available here )
The jacket and the t-shirt : when temperatures approach 25 degrees, this is an ideal combination (above 30 unless you are particularly resistant to heat, forget the jackets obviously)
If you have a linen jacket , even better. I will offer you some of them in the buying guide which will follow this article.
A classic example: geometrically, V-necks are particularly suitable to accompany the lapels of a blazer . Be careful to find a subtle balance in the depth of the V-neck: a collar that is too deep will feminize the outfit and a collar that is not deep enough will not make it harmonious.
Here, the black patterns create contrast compared to two fairly close colors ->
An interesting t-shirt since it uses certain codes of the striped shirt without being one (V-neck, thicker stripes and two different colors): an interesting way to color your outfit and divert an outfit that we are starting to see often , the sailor top and the gray blazer worn with rolled up sleeves ->
Here with a round neck: if the colors are well found, we lose the geometric harmony that we had on the last outfit.
For what ? Quite simply because the collar is not deep enough and contrasts too much with the lapels of the jacket which direct the eye much more downwards.
It's for the same reason that with a shirt, we encourage you to systematically unbutton the first button (apart from the collar): it's even more rewarding when you wear it with a jacket ->
Also remember that by rolling up the sleeves of your jacket, you add yet another color.
You have the choice: it can be either the lining of your jacket, the inside of your shirt, or the sleeve of a cardigan ->
In this outfit, we have an interesting contrast of color and style made from two spring/summer basics: the denim shirt and the light gray jacket. A cohabitation really well linked by a thin light brown belt which balances the tones well ->
Third possibility: jacket, shirt and t-shirt . We have often advised you against wearing a visible t-shirt under your shirt, but thanks to the article on how to wear a shirt you have learned how to (well) bend the rules).
A combo that goes well in spring: the shirt allows for a richer outfit in terms of colors and contrasts. Don't forget that a plain shirt always means two more colors: that of the shirt and that of the buttons. Play with the color, or even the material (if they are made of wood for example) of the buttons
Here the reminder of the buttons and the t-shirt is discreet but reinforces the coherence of the outfit: be careful not to overdo it, just stick to basic color references.
Here the shirt is worn open, it's up to you ->
In this photo, the slightly colorful jacket is softened by both the t-shirt and the shirt: it forms a discreet additional layer but which brings considerable richness to the outfit compared to a simple jacket/t-shirt combo ->
The polo shirt and the jacket : it's not my favorite combination, but the color combination in this photo is so successful that I couldn't resist showing it to you ->
I'm not a big fan of the polo shirt since it leaves less freedom than a shirt and has a too conservative connotation. You can't do any layering with it, as the visible t-shirt under the polo shirt should absolutely be avoided . Except for those nostalgic for Alan Harper and Two and a Half Men ->
Afterwards, here are other combos more characteristic of mid-season than of summer. Here are already two examples of t-shirts worn either with a vest or with a cardigan and a jacket.
In the first case, you have a round neck and in the second case a V-neck of medium depth, I'll let you judge for yourself the most geometrically harmonious outfit ->
Finally, an example not really in season, but simply to show you the difference that a small detail like buttons can make ->
They are here both matched to the tie, to the watch, and in a different tone to the jacket. For me, the key to style is really managing to master these kinds of subtleties without going too far.
