The Dillon is our take on the black leather jacket: a straight cut inspired by a work jacket, made from thick, supple European leather with a distinct grain, and crafted in Portugal. Its clean design makes it just as easy to pair with jeans as it is with pleated pants, whether in casual-chic outfits or more statement-making looks.

The leather jacket has a special place in Bonnegueule’s history. It has been a staple of our collection for nearly a decade, and we remain committed to using only the finest leathers from renowned, certified European tanneries.

The brown Dillon leather jacket, released last year, was very well received, and we thank you for that. This season, we decided we needed to release a black jacket—one with a bolder style—after having already worked with brown suede, which has a more understated look.

The Dillon Jacket: Sleek and Sophisticated

The Dillon is a reimagined work jacket. In addition to its patch chest pocket, it features two slanted hip pockets that set it apart visually and into which your hands slip naturally.

Its elegant shirt collar is extended by a placket adorned with fairly thick metal buttons.

Inside, you'll find a zippered pocket and two mesh pockets for storing all your belongings.

You can't fake leather, especially when it's smooth.

The Dillon jacket, crafted from a truly luxurious material, is made of smooth leather with a uniform, clearly visible grain.

While many brands use leather sourced from suppliers in Asia (particularly in India), where tanning conditions are not always ideal, we are committed to sourcing from suppliers that are geographically closer to us.

That’s how we found what we were looking for at the Portuguese company J. R. Fontes & Filhos, which tans this leather in Spain under the Leather Working Group (LWG) certification.

Quite thick (~1 mm), it’s perfect for the weeks and months ahead, effectively shielding you from the cold and wind (leather has excellent windproof properties). Plus, thanks to its color, it’s not easily stained or soiled.

It’s a jacket that you can feel on your shoulders, but it’s not stiff at all. This leather has a lovely natural suppleness, and it will become even more comfortable after you’ve worn it a few times.

The garments are manufactured by a partner workshop in Portugal, located in the Porto region, which specializes in the production of leather clothing and has been producing all of our leather goods for the past few seasons.

How to Wear a Black Leather Jacket the Right Way?

Some general tips

  • Adjust how many buttons you unbutton to manage temperature changes—and for style. In my opinion, the classic way to wear it is to button up the 2 or 3 middle buttons, just below the collar, and leave at least the top and bottom buttons unbuttoned.
  • Try wearing the jacket with the collar up. More specifically, wear it with the collar up but the tips slightly turned down for an interesting visual effect.

  • If you have a loose-fitting coat or parka, wear this jacket as a mid-layer under your outerwear for a different look (and excellent insulation).

Outfit Ideas

Look 1

Simply pair it with your everyday casual-chic outfits: with a shirt (which adds a soft touch to balance out the leather), a sweater, and pleated pants, for example.

Feel free to use fabrics with texture and body to complement the character of leather: shaggy sweaters, flannel, velvet, denim, etc.

This look also gives us a chance to answer the big question: Should I wear black and blue, or not?

Short answer: YES, go for it!

Detailed answer: Avoid pairing black and navy garments with smooth textures. A thin black merino sweater with simple navy twill chinos: it’s too smooth; the pieces don’t stand out, and the combination isn’t interesting.

On the other hand, with well-defined fabrics that have texture, it looks much better. The black Dillon jacket paired with the navy Salento pants—made of a lively navy wool twill with a distinct texture—is a definite yes!

To create a real contrast with the black jacket, you can wear light-colored pants—in this case, ecru jeans. Beige pants, like the Poetto Sand, would also work, for a softer contrast.

With this type of outfit, wearing black shoes is a great way to frame the look (a light-colored piece between two dark ones).

Under the jacket, you can wear a very simple sweater. For a bolder look, a colorful sweater—such as a yellow or pink shaggy sweater—would work great.

Look 3

Perhaps you don't wear much black. If that's the case, we encourage you to give it a try, because it really adds another string to your fashion bow.

In that case, why not try an all-black look?

There is something intriguing, almost magnetic, about a monochromatic silhouette. It is both understated and striking, especially when the fabrics and proportions are perfectly balanced.

Here, you’ll find only dark pieces, each distinguished by its material: the deep black of the leather, the disheveled, mottled charcoal of the sweater, the grainy texture of the denim, and finally, the clean lines of the black moccasin. The idea: to maintain a consistent color palette while creating enough textural contrast to keep the look dynamic.

And if you want to break up that monochrome look, you can use an accessory in a lighter or bolder color—like a mauve bandana, a red beanie, a beige scarf, and so on.

Men's Look - Leather Jacket - Beige Sweater - Blue Jeans - Black Sneakers
Lewis Sweater (coming soon), BG10 jeans,Nazare sneakers

Let's go back to the idea behind the first look. If you want to try pairing black and blue in a simple way, go for a lighter shade of blue, such as faded jeans like the BG10 stonewash, for example.

Under the sweater, a camel-colored sweater seems like a good choice: bright but not too bold, this shade pairs well with both the black of the leather and the blue of the jeans.

For footwear, stick with black shoes—but this time, go for suede sneakers to add a casual touch. Their white soles provide a subtle contrast to the overall look.

How to Care for and Extend the Life of Your Dillon Leather Jacket?

As mentioned above, this jacket doesn’t really get dirty easily. However, it does require a little care to keep it looking its best and to let it develop a beautiful patina over time. To do this:

  1. Use a dusting brush to remove dust from the surface
  2. For minor surface stains, use a cloth and soapy water
  3. To condition the leather, use a suitable product such as Saphir's Rénovateur or Bōme's conditioning gel.

What about waterproofing spray? It’s an optional product that can provide surface protection during a light rain shower, but it’s not essential (especially on dark, smooth leather). If you’d like to use one, opt for a silicone-free spray, such as Saphir’s Invulner.

Which size should I choose?

The Dillon has a slightly straight cut. The shoulder cut is designed to flatter your frame, and there’s enough room in the chest to allow you to move comfortably and layer your outfits.

The length is classic: this jacket covers your hips and doesn't hang too low, so it doesn't overwhelm your figure.

We recommend that you choose your usual size. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us on social media ( Instagram, YouTube, Discord, email at client@bonnegueule.fr, or even WhatsApp) or come try on the item at one of our stores in Paris, Lyon, or Bordeaux.
