Informal Polo - Jordan
“Don't let me rant about Informale, otherwise we won't get through it.
If you don't stop me, I'm going to talk about the accuracy of the wardrobe that Steve Calder offers with his brand. Because it is, for me, a proof of intelligence to make products that are inspired by classic elegance but work on it in such a way that it appears completely relaxed and easy.
“Sartorial casualwear” . This is the aesthetic register of the clothes he makes. And I would add a touch of militaria anyway.
Good. Well done Steve, what you are doing is great. He was due to come to Paris to Ardentes Clipei in May. Well, it failed.
And the Informal e offering is still quite limited but Steve has decided to offer a long-sleeved polo shirt. Because in his eyes it is a pillar of sartorial casualwear . And I agree with him.
This one is made with an Italian cotton pique knit, in a small workshop in Naples. The finishes are careful. I will not detail them here.
What I particularly like about this room:
- The nonchalant collar
- The slightly unusual denim color
- The fact that the buttonhole is deep
Its price is 191€. For a cheaper alternative, you have Natalino (£70). »
Polo Suitsupply - David
“My relationship with polo has not always been easy.
For a long time I found it to be an item of little use from a style point of view, often worn with a small logo on the chest.
It was only when I started to see very beautiful polo shirts with worked collars and materials that had character that my outlook began to change.
I look at the Suitsupply collection from time to time, particularly for the boldness that we find scattered here and there, particularly in the Jort range.
Here is an ecru long-sleeved polo shirt with a Cuban collar.
For the moment everything is well.
Here is its composition: 65% cashmere, 35% linen.
I don't think I've ever seen cashmere and linen mixed together. It's very counterintuitive because on one side we have a winter material, insulating, warm, soft, and on the other hand another summer material, airy, light, fresh.
I don't think you can wear this polo shirt comfortably in 30° or more, but in moderate temperatures it should be very good. So I think of spring, early autumn or even the famous cool summer evenings.
I visualize this polo shirt worn alone or under a very casual blazer
What I particularly like about this room:
- A worked collar, far from the soft, loose collars usually found on polo shirts
- A simple color to wear, in a unique material
- The absence of ribbed edges, for a more fluid, relaxed silhouette
Its price is 149€. A nice curiosity. »
Polo Yeossal - Benoît
“The great thrill of polo, in my opinion, is found in this Singaporean micro-brand, no, but look at that collar! It's made to order , allowing you to choose the length of the sleeves and the polo shirt.
I really like the detail of this very graphic throat , which only has one button. I like this piece which mixes traditional and contemporary with this unique collar.
And precisely this collar – which will certainly cause debate – will happily be placed under your blazer lapels… or your safari jacket:
It's priced at 198 Singapore dollars, or around €128. To be reserved only for the most adventurous in terms of collar size. »
Drake's Polo Shirt - Michel
“In my wardrobe, I only have one polo shirt and it’s ecru.
For what ? Because on a base layer, this color has the gift of brightening the top of an outfit very well with a natural finish which will not transcend as much as white, and which will highlight many layering configurations. In a locker room that is not run by abundance, this function is important to me.
And then an ecru polo shirt with camel chinos. It's still beautiful.
To make my proposal to you, I went in search of the ecru polo shirt that I would pick from my wardrobe with my eyes closed as I would be so sure of its stylistic contribution.
Here is a very beautiful interpretation from Drake's, in a 100% cotton terry knit.
A less common alternative to the classic pique from which the polo shirt sometimes struggles to come off, this material here perfectly enhances my favorite color.
It's a little fantasy which, sober and united, remains discreet from afar
She takes the polo shirt away from its primary vision with what we so adore in our columns: a beautiful texture.
As great to the touch as it is to look at, this particular jersey puts him on a pedestal. It brings that extra note that will finish off a successful outfit in style.
And when I talk about pleasant to the touch, I also rely on its ability to absorb our heat as effectively as a paper towel will swallow a spilled glass of wine at the table.
All this with the good taste of Drake's: a well-proportioned collar to which the material gives a very nice drape , a straight cut which gives the right amount of volume and fluidity, as well as beautiful buttoned handles.
Polo James Raye - Éditions MR - Jérôme
In my imagination, two visions clash. On one side, the sports polo shirt of the 80s and 90s: rugby, golf, tennis, emotional thoughts in passing for Stephan Edberg, his volley attacks and his kitsch and/or vintage Adidas polo shirts depending on the mood.
On the other, the elegant polo shirt, sixties and perfectly British as it appears in the credits of The Prisoner. Between the two: there is a void to fill, something that would be both dressy AND casual.
This dream polo shirt, I found it in color(s) in the very interesting spring-summer collection of Editions MR, a Parisian brand that we know well here and which regularly offers beautiful things, blazers and pants notably.
This long-sleeved polo shirt is called James and it's definitely cool, ideal for the coming season, all in olive and ecru striped cotton.
Among the little things that catch the eye: the pretty combination of colors, the relaxed collar, the ribbed edges on the cuffs and the belt which add an extra touch of style.
It will go very well with beautiful stone-colored drawstring pants from Informale , mentioned above by Jordan, a pair of sneakers or pretty shoes.
Its price: 160 euros. It's a bit expensive, perhaps. But it's beautiful.
