In your locker room, there are two types of clothes.
On one side, the basics, rather common pieces that serve as the base for your outfits, without making waves.
On the other hand, there are the stronger pieces. Those that have personality and that give that something extra to your look. These are the clothes that you like to grab from your closet in the morning, because you know you can count on them to get through the day in style.
The clothes I am going to present to you are part of this second category. And that is why you have already appreciated these pieces at BonneGueule in the past.
To cope with the changing temperatures that are coming, we have decided to offer you new versions:
- A new wool flannel cargo pant, with a higher level of style.
- Two new colors for our turtleneck sweaters, to multiply the stylistic possibilities.
Level up: our new wool cargo pants
Cargo pants and BonneGueule, a long love story
Our story with cargo began almost five years ago, with a first wool model whose success made Benoît very proud of this new challenge for the BonneGueule wardrobe.
It continued last year, with a version in ripstop wool and another in olmetex cotton that you welcomed with open arms.
It continues today on a new page: we are proud to present our cargo pants with the most accomplished style.
And if we love cargo pants so much, it's precisely for what they bring to your wardrobe on a stylistic level.
An ideal alternative to jeans and chinos, cargo pants are the first piece you can turn to when it's time to give your legs more style.
Imagine an outfit. A jeans/sweatshirt combo for example. It's pretty cool. Effective. But it remains a simple outfit, which can sometimes flirt with boredom.
Imagine the same outfit, but replace the jeans with cargo pants. You have a look that is out of the ordinary, more original, that has something to say.
This is why we love cargo pants so much. And it was high time for us to go further with this piece.
Our new interpretation of the cargo ship
A more graphic wool flannel, for traveling with elegance
You probably know: cargo pants are usually a piece of cotton, made of a very thick gabardine to be able to crawl in the jungle with a knife between your teeth. But also to serve its military origin.
For our part, we chose a beautiful wool flannel for three reasons.
1. It gives it a more urban dimension, so you can wear it more easily in your daily life while enjoying its adventurous side.
2. It gives it a certain elegance, which provides an interesting contrast with the casualness suggested by its cargo pockets. Thus, you can integrate it into a casual outfit as well as a more formal style.
3. It will keep you warm while following you in the thermal amplitudes during winter and mid-season. Thanks to the powers of wool.
But as I was saying, the goal of these pants was to go further than with our previous wool cargo pants. So we had to find a flannel with even more charm.
Benoît and Julien, our collection manager, searched tirelessly before stopping to find their happiness, which will also make your outfits:
“We were looking for a very graphic flannel, which would have a stronger style statement and more personality” - Julien.
This is a fine 18.5 micron wool that will remain soft on your thighs.
The fabric weight is 218 g/m2, heavy enough to keep you warm in winter without losing fluidity.
Vitale Barberis Canonico, from the history of Italian spinning to that of BonneGueule.
It is once again at our faithful transalpine supplier Vitale Barberis Canonico that Benoît and Julien have unearthed this beautiful flannel.
As a reminder, this is one of the oldest spinners we work with, since the first traces of its activity date back to 1663!
And if we have been calling on this historic family business since the beginning of BonneGueule, it is because:
- They have a creative ability that results in simply magnificent fabrics, with always the right shade and an impressive drape.
- They are vertically integrated and therefore control their production chain, with a spinning mill located in Biella in northern Italy, and wool sourced in Australia.
- They take into account social and environmental issues, the details of which you will find in their code of ethics.
Two clips at the front, for sartorial inspiration
Do you know what's more stylish than a pair of flannel cargo pants?
A pair of pleated flannel cargo pants.
Because style is hidden in the details, we added this element that refers to the world of tailoring to push the elegance cursor even further.
Stronger design pockets to keep your belongings in style
"To respond well to the stronger spirit of the piece, we also needed pockets with more assertive lines" - Julien
Benoît and Julien therefore thought of these pockets with a design richer in details, while remaining adapted to the elegance of the trousers, since they are well-placed. Without superfluous volume, for a refined look.
With their gusset in the middle, these pockets will accommodate your headphones and other personal effects with joy and style!
A carrot cut, for more comfort (and a cooler look)
Style, versatility, thermoregulation... there was only one thing missing: comfort.
That's good: the carrot cut leaves room between your thighs, and therefore gives you plenty of freedom of movement, while still drawing the line of your legs thanks to a tight bottom.
It also contributes to this balance between the relaxation it brings with the cargo pockets, and the formalism suggested by the flannel.
It will therefore be up to you to choose whether you want to emphasize this casual aspect like here, or if you prefer to place the cursor on the "soft tailoring" side like above.
A size guide just for you
Our turtleneck sweaters: two new colors, an abundance of new possibilities
The turtleneck, icon of masculine elegance
Remember, at the beginning of the article I was talking about stronger clothes, with something extra. The turtleneck is a perfect example.
And if it stands out so much from its knitted cousins, it's for two main reasons.
1. Just like the white T-shirt or jeans, it is an iconic piece in our wardrobe, which has become a symbol of masculine elegance since it highlighted the stature of the great men of Hollywood: Steve McQueen, Daniel Craig, Paul Newman...
2. Its collar brings a certain sophistication, it gives panache to the one who wears it.
Once you have been tempted by its magic and comfort , we quickly become addicted: it's so easy to pick it out of your wardrobe in the morning, when you want to look good without making an effort or avoid having to iron a shirt at the last minute.
That's why, last year, it was time for us to embark on the turtleneck adventure.
And many of you followed us, so many that a need for restocking was quickly felt.
So, to start: thank you! Thank you for this very encouraging welcome that you gave to this piece, thank you for your trust and your feedback on it which reinforced us in the decision taken subsequently.
Because we have chosen to go further, by offering them to you in two new colors, to better meet your needs with a complete range of stylistic possibilities.
There are BonneGueule turtlenecks... and there are the others
A very special knitting stitch, for the charm
The #1 weapon for a beautiful knit that makes the difference: its knitting stitch!
Because a plain knit sweater is synonymous with boredom, we knitted ours in rice stitch to give it a nice relief.
A mesh entirely made by our transalpine friends
It was at the Italian Lanecardate, from the Vitale Barberis Canonico group, that we went to look for the thread for our mesh.
It is therefore a link in VBC's vertical integration, and its main spinner for carded wool fabrics.
And since vertical integration means control over the quality of production, Lanecardate buys its wool in Australia and New Zealand, raw and unwashed, to have control over all the stages of processing up to spinning.
Once the yarn is obtained, the mesh is knitted in our usual Italian workshop. Regarding the thickness of this mesh, it is a gauge 12 . Thin enough to wear under a jacket and/or coat, but substantial enough to keep out the cold.
90% wool, to say goodbye to hot flashes
News of the day: there is still no better material than wool for winter and mid-season knitwear.
- It insulates you from the cold, and releases this heat when it is hot. Which will save you a lot of drops on your forehead on the bus.
- It does not crease, thanks to its natural elasticity which will allow the sweater to always fit well on you, in the greatest comfort.
- It doesn't retain any odor. So fewer washes. Which is good, because you quickly want to put your turtleneck on and put it back on once you've tasted its charm.
10% cashmere, to better pamper your back
I was talking above about the comfort provided by the elasticity of wool, there was only one thing missing: the softness of cashmere. .
Cashmere fibers are particularly fine and soft, adding a hint of them to our knit gives it all the softness and suppleness it needs.
No problem wearing this knit without a t-shirt!
0% scissor cut, to follow your shoulders well
No surprise: it's still a fully-fashioned montage.
To make a sweater, many manufacturers cut the sleeves and the bust from meters of material to waste some of it and sew the rest together.
Our workshop knitted them in one piece and then re-knitted the whole thing.
Our two new colors: in search of the perfect shade
You may have noticed: we did not use the same spinner as last year.
Why? Because when Julien and Benoît are looking for a color, they are very precise and demanding about the shade they want.
"We see camel and grey knits everywhere, in all shades. It's not easy to find the one that will make you say " wow, that's a beautiful grey!" once you see it on a sweater." - Julien.
Sample after sample, prototype after prototype, our two materials miners ended up coming across a subtly mottled anthracite gray, as well as a warm, slightly camel beige.
#1: An anthracite gray, multi-purpose
Among the first colors that should equip a man's wardrobe, there is gray.
This is what we call a basic color. A safe color that you can complement with other colors without using your brain too much in the morning. A versatile color.
Halfway between white and black, it is neutral enough to easily match all the colors in your wardrobe.
Think of a color. Got it in mind? Gray works with it.
But the problem with a basic color is that it can quickly become austere. Become boring if it is alone in an outfit.
It is thanks to these kinds of details that a gray sweater stands out from another, and that it becomes very attractive when it is alone, while being easy to match with other pieces. .
In this outfit, the turtleneck plays its role very well by bringing its touch of elegance, without taking over another piece. And that's the power of this gray.
Another outfit that exudes balance: each piece fully expresses its beauty without cannibalizing another.
#2: A camel beige, a playground for your layerings
Here too, for this second new color, our goal was to multiply the stylistic opportunities that would be available to you.
These turtlenecks should become a playground on which you can multiply the mixes and contrasts.
And this beige is made for the layering sandbox.
Once on your shoulders, you will only have to play the card of the shades of brown as here with the jacket to be able to add the layers and arm yourself with a look loaded with style.
By adding layers of white, ecru or brown to your beige turtleneck, you can easily break up the ensemble with a stronger blue without disrupting the harmony. As Jordan does so well with his shirt.
Because these "earth" tones, which we find in a large part of our closet, come from the same palette, and will always blend well together. Whatever their number, they will always be ready to welcome other stronger colors.
Our size guide
One last tip: when you're getting ready in the morning at home, when you're having fun trying out all the possible combinations with it, don't forget to go to work.
