Coats and parkas: 4 looks analyzed to prepare for winter

Manteaux et parkas : 4 looks analysés pour préparer l'hiver

In autumn-winter, are you more of a coat or parka?

For this new episode of Gimmick, I'll give you the choice with these four looks: two in coats, two in parkas. That way, nobody is jealous.

Here we go for the style analysis.

To present the video, I wear a BonneGueule turtleneck.

Look 1: contemporary elegance

First look with dear Shuhei Nishiguchi. He presents us with a vision of elegance that goes beyond classic codes and tends more towards relaxation.

Takeaways from this look:

- Each garment is twisted into a more relaxed version . The formal, structured coat is replaced by a more flexible model, with raglan sleeves and fullness. The shirt, tie and blazer combo is replaced by a simple sweater. On the feet, no brogues or derbies but suede leather moccasins with horsebits. The leather briefcase is replaced by a nylon backpack.

- The color palette is worth highlighting : it is very neutral with a base of gray and black. There is a hint of color with the pattern of the scarf and at the bottom: the check of the pants and the socks are purple. A not so common color in men that is subtly used here.

Look 2: workwear is in the air

Do you recognize him? This is Svante, aka The Urban Hippie on Instagram, whom Jérôme had the honor of interviewing here:

We are therefore on a very typical workwear look.

Takeaways from this look:

- A simple base (olive parka, raw jeans, Red Wing work boots) enhanced by rich layering composed of a sleeveless vest and a leather jacket. Don't hesitate and be creative with a slightly loose parka: underneath it a jacket, a jacket, an overshirt, a vest, etc.

- Cohesive accessories : a Bleu de Chauffe haversack and a wool hat, quite workwear in spirit. Note also that the color of the hat is reminiscent of that of the jacket and shoes.

Look 3: patch work

We continue with this great outfit found on a Korean Instagrammer. They are strong in style, the Koreans by the way.

Takeaways from this look:

- Of course, you couldn't have missed this patchwork coat , that is to say with sections of different materials assembled together. It's a strong piece that sets the tone of the outfit. This coat is therefore very original but goes well: there is a form of coherence in the colors and patterns. Everything balances well.

- To go with this coat, a monochrome : turtleneck, velvet pants and desert boots are available in shades of brown. I find that the turtleneck + velvet pants + suede shoes combo works extremely well in an autumn/winter style.

- Some nice little accessories to finish it off: a green bucket hat and a military-style nylon tote bag.

Look 4: parkamaïeu

Last look with a parka! I found it on the Instagram of the American brand Evankenori, which I didn't know about until then.

Takeaways from this look:

- It’s refined workwear . Clean because the clothes are in similar shades, it is (again) a monochrome here in earth tones, with the green parka, the beige pants and the brown overshirt which forms the link between the two. Clean also because the clothes themselves are quite sober. There aren't a lot of pockets, cords, or textures that stand out visually.

- Under the parka, we see two closed and superimposed shirt collars . I don't know if it's a shirt and an overshirt in a similar fabric or if it's the same item of clothing with two collars.

- There is contrast at the bottom with the white socks and black derbies. Adding contrast to the ends is a classic gimmick in monochrome outfits.

I think clothing can be a beautiful means of personal development. I like unstructured jackets, straight pants and loafers.
