The great classics: Figaret shirts

Article written by a loyal reader: Guillaume R, who is an intern at Figaret and who wanted to share his contact with the brand with us 🙂

The Alain Figaret brand has been offering high-end ready-to-wear clothing for men since 1968. Although relatively well-known, this house is only rarely mentioned in men's fashion articles, which I find a shame given the excellent quality/price ratio that can be found there.

Let's start with Alain Figaret's flagship product: shirts. Unlike what you can find in brands like Xoos, these are more classic and sober, both in terms of colors (blue, pink and white in the vast majority) and in the cut (no pie shovel collars or fluorescent orange buttons). One of the advantages of Figaret lies first in the large number of choices available : you will find most of the existing types of collars (French, American, English, Italian, semi-Italian, etc.), straight cuts, slims or semi-slim shirts, simple French cuffs, and finally shirts with extended sleeves (5 cm longer than a classic shirt). You should therefore find what you are looking for whatever your body type.

Personally, being rather tall and thin, it is a real pleasure to be able to wear shirts perfectly adapted to my shoulder width without the sleeves falling 10 cm too short . For an average price of 90 euros, the brand offers good quality shirts that could easily be found at 130 euros among the competition: mother-of-pearl buttons, Egyptian cotton, double-twisted weave. Small downside in terms of quality however: the top button often tends to come undone.

One detail may also displease some, although this is not my case: the collar does not include removable stays, these being replaced by triple cotton reinforcement. When ironed well, the collar still retains its shape very well . The brand also offers linen shirts, which I have not yet tested.

For my part, I have a weakness for the gatsby collar , a semi-Italian collar whose white color contrasts pleasantly with the rest of the shirt, with a semi-fitted cut:

Now let's move on to ties, for which there is also a wide variety of choices available, always remaining classic (no ties with designs or patterns). These are also well made, entirely in silk of course, and made by hand in Italy. Note the presence of 7-ply ties , that is to say without interlining, the hold of the tie being given only by the folding, which gives the latter a more beautiful finish and allows the formation of a more knot. generous .

This type of tie is only offered by a small number of brands, mostly Italian, and at prices that are generally quite high (because their manufacture requires more fabric than that of a “normal” tie). , so it is really nice to be able to find it here for 89 euros . It remains an investment, but remains really reasonable compared to the prices found elsewhere.

You will also find at Alain Figaret accessories reserved for the most dandy among us: cufflinks, bow ties and ascots, on which I will not be able to say much given that I never wear them.

In short, I cannot recommend enough that you take a look in the store, even if unfortunately the discounts offered during the sales are not as interesting as elsewhere!
