Every day, we receive a lot of questions about restocking:
“Will this piece be restocked?”
"And when is she coming back?"
or: "But why don't you relaunch it when there is demand?"
So I'm going to publish articles that explain the current restocks. You'll understand how our collection is structured, how we approach each range, how each garment differentiates itself... 🤔
Indeed, with all the stitches released over the past 2 years, I had never taken the time to give you a summary : it's now done!
And above all, we listened to you...
We have taken the bull by the horns: we are now restocking a very large number of our creations in the coming days .
There are in particular a lot of knits that we had not planned to restock, but which were sold out really too quickly, and which we were asked for. So they are back!
IMPORTANT NOTE: All sweaters in the article have been restocked, and are now available in all sizes!
We have definitely planned for stock, but as usual, don't delay with seasonal clothing.
My personal story with knitting
But first, I'm going to tell you a secret!
At the beginning of my passion for clothing, I didn't care about knitwear ! Because I hated simple, plain, thin, dark sweaters with absolutely zero texture.
I found them boring... In fact, I didn't like sweaters that had nothing to say.
Then little by little, I discovered fibers and their blends, knitting stitches and their textures. Because as soon as you go up in quality, it's a fabulous world : knitwear is full of softness, fluffiness, comfort, warmth...
And from a style point of view, it's magnificent: there's texture, there's flecked, and there's timelessness.
Everything you need to make them essential items in a men's wardrobe worthy of the name.
Yes, today it is a product category that I love to create. With Julien and Charlotte from the product department, we strive to find unique things, with a real "BonneGueule" touch.
And when a reader or customer tells us that thanks to BonneGueule, they have started to appreciate a beautiful merino wool, or a beautiful blend with yak, you can't imagine how happy that makes me!
The common point of all our stitches
Materials : 100% high-end natural fibers: extra-fine merino wool , silk, cashmere and even… yak and alpaca! ✨With the exception of our Sato Seni yarns 🇯🇵, all our materials come from Italy 🇮🇹
What you won't find : 0% synthetic material (polyester, acrylic) 🌱
Knitting : Italy 🇮🇹 or Portugal 🇵🇹
"Fully fashioned" assembly (or remeaillage in good French): the parts of the sweater (sleeves, front panel, back panel...) are assembled as if they were knitted together, and not sewn. The cuts are thus more beautiful, and there is no waste of yarn 🙌
Ethics : traceability of fibers, respect for living things 🐏
Gauge and weight of a sweater?
Realizing the thickness of a sweater is not always easy in a photo... To help you in your choices, I have indicated the gauge and weight for each sweater.
The gauge (thickness of the sweater)
The gauge, on a knitting machine, is the number of needles that can be placed over a distance of one inch, or 2.54 cm.
What is counterintuitive is that the higher it is, the thinner the sweater. .
A low gauge will therefore correspond to a large, very textured knit. And warm because the large knitting stitches will store plenty of air which will insulate you from the cold.
Weight (density of the sweater)
As for the weight, normally brands don't indicate it, but I love weighing each sweater on a scale!
Weight and gauge are not absolute and ultimate criteria. , but they give you a good overall idea of how warm a sweater is .
Our mesh range is segmented into three (like for boxing!): lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight.
The "lightweights"
It's all in the title. These are sweaters that you can wear very often during the year:
🌻 In summer : on a cool evening
🍃 In spring and fall : as is or under a jacket
❄️ In winter : under a blazer or a sleeveless vest, thanks to their finesse. They are made for layering!
Sato Seni Sweaters
The story of this sweater is quite funny, and illustrates well that "chance does things well": we were visiting our Italian workshop and I saw a box with Japanese characters written on it...
This is how I discovered Sato-Seni, this very creative Japanese wool spinner, who has nothing to do with Italian spinners. It is a slightly irregular, nervous knit... who said wabi sabi?
And it's the perfect thickness to wear under a blazer.
Gauge : 18
Weight : 260g
Many of you liked its "slub" look, with a charming irregularity, and a "capital" quality (I really like the expression):
Cardigan in wool, silk and cashmere
Wool, silk, cashmere, it's a blend that we really like at BonneGueule , and which allows for a beautiful softness, and a very "high-end" feeling. It's really striking when you have it in your hand.
Gauge : 12
Weight : 262g
Its thin thickness allows it to be worn very easily under a blazer, making it a formidable winter ally:
Wool and cashmere turtleneck
Best-sellers of last winter, they were sold out far too early!
Here too, it is a piece that you should not hesitate to wear under a blazer , for a very beautiful elegant outfit, like Steve McQueen in Bullitt. .
We chose a rice grain type knitting stitch for a slight visual relief.
Gauge : 12
Weight : 264g
It's also a piece that had a great critical reception, but which sold out far too quickly:
The "middleweights"
🍃Here, it is a perfect thickness for a "transition climate" between fall and winter .
Very versatile in the face of temperatures that are gradually dropping, these sweaters can easily be slipped into many outfits.
My opinion is that they can allow you to wear a light coat at the end of autumn and they will be a valuable help to enjoy the last terraces!
❄️And of course all winter, except on very cold days.
Wool, silk and cashmere turtleneck sweater
Yes, these sweaters released last week are actually thicker than the photos suggest!
With its funnel neck (halfway between a round neck and a turtleneck) and its "micro-wave" pattern, it's a knit with personality.
Gauge : 16
Weight : 364g
And here is the last testimony about him, everything is said:
Donégal sweater in extrafine merino wool
How to add character to a blue sweater?
By choosing a very raised knitting stitch, and sprinkling it with white particles!
Gauge : 3
Weight : 416g
And from what you say, you really liked his famous speckling:
Extrafine merino wool rice stitch sweater
A sweater that is almost in the "heavyweight" category, which allows it to be worn very easily in autumn and to accompany you when we enter winter for good.
Gauge : 7
Weight : 600g
It's one of our bestsellers, and you loved its highly raised stitch and its range of colors!
“Superyak” sweater: merino wool + yak
One of my big favorites from last winter!
Gauge : 7
Weight : 638g
With its rating of 4.9/5 it was a (too) quick sell-out: we had planned to have a stock for several months, everything was gone in several days. It's finally back in all sizes!
The latest testimony posted about him says it all:
Magnificent color and a beautiful rendering with the ottoman mesh, a real aesthetic bet. To wear, it is true that it is less elastic, with a "modern chainmail" feel, ultra effective as soon as the temperature drops that said.
The "heavyweights"
❄️Here we are in some real good big knit! A warm knit, very comforting, and very addictive .
If you are chilly like me, these knits are simply essential.
When it's cold outside and the interiors are only just beginning to be heated, in country houses that are freezing all week, etc., it's the mesh thickness that has saved my life more than once!
Thick ecru sweater
This is one of the fastest sell-outs of last winter! It's back here, still in its extra-fine merino wool (17.5 microns) from the Italian Tollegno.
Gauge : 3
Weight : 650g
You like this beautiful white color that brightens up your winter outfits:
Thick alpaca and merino cardigan
At BonneGueule, we love thick cardigans with a soft and thick shawl collar. I confess, it dates back to 2006, when I watched Casino Royale for the first time. James Bond wore an imposing cardigan that had a big impact on the twenty-something that I was.
So we wanted to interpret our vision of the cardigan, with this very compact ottoman rib, and this very high-end merino wool/alpaca blend.
Gauge : 7
Weight : 800g
Thick cardigan in superyak and merino
This cardigan almost never saw the light of day due to its production cost... But when we received the first prototype, we found it so beautiful that we decided to give it a chance.
And that's how it became one of our customers' favorite knits, thanks to its subtle color due to the yak hair, which is really super soft.
Gauge : 5
Weight : 1116g
A truly luxurious knit that has been highly acclaimed:
So all these sweaters become permanent?
Short answer: no.
In fact, just with the knitwear we plan to release for winter 2020 (yes, we're already working on it), it's impossible to make everything coexist. We would have too wide a range, and no more space in the store to store it!
We will have to make choices, and we will sit down around the table at the end of the year.
So if you like a sweater here, take it, because we have no plans to place any additional orders with our suppliers in the coming months (we will not restock large sweaters in May for example). From now on, the stock can only decrease!
