What is a gimmick?
The principle: analyze the outfits of those who dress the best and tell you all their secrets.
The result is that after watching each episode, you will have a whole bunch of gimmicks to apply to get out of your comfort zone and achieve even better outfits.

After Jordan and David, it's my turn to tackle Gimmick!
For this fourth episode, I didn't want to deal with a particular piece or a specific style technique...
On the other hand, as you probably know, since my last Sapristi I have asked myself a lot of questions about the temporality of style: does a good style last over time? Do we have to be in trend? What has changed in 5 years in fashion?
And in fact, that gave me the idea for the theme of this episode of Gimmick: comparing the 2015 outfits of influencers respected for their style... to their outfits in 2020.
I chose three in total.
So as not to spoil the surprise for you, I'm only showing you their 2020 looks here... And I'll give you a little link to the 2015 looks afterwards. It's up to you to spoil yourself or not.
Nami Man (@nvamimvn)
Without doubt one of my favorites for his accuracy: this man is always in total control between "too much" and "not enough".
Here is the look chosen for 2020.

Either way, Nami gives us a great lesson in knowing how to follow trends while remaining timeless. (Yes it's paradoxical, but it's possible)
Richard Biedul ( @richardbiedul )
Come on, we're not going to lie, she's the most beautiful model in the "sarto" world. But above all, he has everything on his side to make "superlative" outfits : he's super tall, he poses super well, he's super handsome, and he's dressed by super brands. (And super expensive too). Having already met him at Pitti, we only see him 100 meters away every time he is there.
Here is her 2020 look which could be summed up in one word: total opulence. “Classic Richard” one would say.
But does that necessarily mean he's always been a style-savvy guy? I talked about it in my Sapristi #6 , but very often those who impose the most are not necessarily those who know the best. And I found it very interesting to see the difference between a “purely model” Richard who does not dress for himself in 2015, and the Rirchard of today, a model AND sartorial influencer in his own right.
And if you watch her 2015 look (or wait patiently to discover it during the video), you'll see that the answer is... No, not necessarily . At least, the difference between the Richard of yesterday and that of today is striking.
Ethan Newton ( @ethandesu )
For several reasons: firstly he's the "very good guy who doesn't look like much". For someone with such a following (around forty thousand followers), he is relatively discreet about the exposure of his person: more than half of the photos are those of other dressed men, or of him alongside passionate friends. This is particularly due to the fact that he was initially co-founder of a menswear boutique present in Tokyo and Hong Kong, called Bryceland's.
That is to say that his first job is not really to appear on the networks, but to be an enthusiast who selects crazy pieces and sells them. And I wondered if that would be reflected in his style.
Secondly, Ethan has a physique that is far from fashion standards: he is visibly overweight. However, that doesn't stop him from having silhouettes that are always perfect beard, and a very assertive style. And I admit that I have an interest, in fashion as in other fields, in those who start with a disadvantage, and still manage to be a success. See for yourself what Ethan looks like in 2020:
Finally, Ethan, being the good enthusiast that he is, seems to have multiple influences , ranging from the Californian West Coast biker to the English gentleman farmer, including militaria and heritage denim.
But you will see that, despite his sartorial knowledge which is undoubtedly much more than five years old, it is only recently that he has succeeded in mixing all his influences into a single unified style , rather than being in the duplication of stylistic personality throughout the days and occasions.
His 2015 look is therefore one of his “personalities”, that of the Gentleman Farmer, which also suits him very well. I find it interesting to see how he was able to leave this "first degree" side that he might have had at the time.
The presentations having been made, I will let you watch the video.
Be well, and see you soon in the comments.
