MEN’S BAG MODELS
THE NAPKIN
Often without a shoulder strap, the towel stands out for its sobriety and finesse.
THE DOCUMENT HOLDER
About 5 to 10 cm thick, it is often found with handles and shoulder strap. Thicker, we will talk about 24-hour bags
THE BAG
Similar to the briefcase, this bag is closed with a large flap the size of the bag and therefore does not include handles.
THE REPORTER
Between the bag and the document holder, it closes with a zip, includes a shoulder strap and always a large pocket on the front of the bag (the Fred Perrys are surely the best known).
THE 48 HOURS
Hand travel bag that corresponds to airplane cabin format.
THE BACKPACK
Choose minimalist and not too wide.
THE SUBJECTS
Inexpensive but don't plan to pass your bag on to your children.
THE FABRIC?
Light and less expensive than leather, watch out for stains if it is light.
THE LEATHER ?
Certainly the most common, it is robust and will develop a patina if you opt for natural leather. However, check that it is smooth and uniform, without nerves or scars.
HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR BAG WELL?
1. THE PLACE OF PRODUCTION
This is a factor in this specific case. France and Italy still have real know-how.
2. CLEANLINESS
Check that there is no excess material or protruding threads.
3. THE SEAMS
Check that the threads are very thick.
4. ZIPS
If there are any, RIRI, YKK and TALON are references.
5. METAL PARTS
If there are any, their quality is an excellent general indicator.
THE ORIGINS OF THE BAG
In the past, the manufacture of men's bags was limited to specialist product houses. From the middle of the 20th century, many clothing brands began to offer a line of bags to expand their range.
In the 1980s, Bernard Arnault created a line of bags and accessories at Dior. For what ? Unlike the house's couture collection, the bags reach a wide audience: “Bags sell,” he says. A strategy that will shake up the world of luxury.
Today, there are few houses that do not offer a line of bags.
