THE ANATOMY OF THE HOODIE

The cotton knits mainly used for the hoodie are the same as for the sweatshirt :

Jersey

JERSEY

It is the knitting most used in the clothing industry, because it is the simplest to make.

fleece

FLEECE

It is a double knit composed of two stitches of different lengths. The longest, floating ones will be cut, scraped then shaved to obtain a fluffy surface. Only one of the sides undergoes these steps to obtain the fleece.

knitting honeycomb

HONEYCOMB KNITTING

This knit structure makes the garment naturally stretchy and more pleasant to wear.

waffle

WAFFLE KNIT

A difference in tension between the warp thread and the weft thread is created during weaving: this is called "embossing" the fabric.

THE ORIGINS OF THE HOODIE

Little brother of the sweatshirt , the hoodie appeared in the 1930s in the United States. Inexpensive and covering, it is primarily intended for American workers in cold stores. But quickly, athletes adopted it to complete their sweatshirt collections.

Later, in the 70s, it became one of the iconic garments of the hip-hop movement, particularly for its comfort and freedom of movement. At the same time, its hood allows you to cover your face, a detail appreciated by gangsters.

Derivative usage hoodie in a “hood” largely tarnishes his image. It was not until the 90s that brands like Ralph Lauren revived its image and gave it a preppy dimension.
