Whatever the product or range, prices at Ralph Lauren remain high in relation to quality.
The classic range is of little interest to us : the products are rather expensive and do not have much added value. Apart from the brand image, the logo, you will find all these basics (t-shirts, pants, sweaters, jackets, etc.) of better quality elsewhere and for less money.
Why not on an Oxford shirt or even a polo shirt, which remain iconic products of the brand.
The RRL and Purple Label lines are more interesting . Better materials are used and the style offered is more advanced:
- RRL (say “double RL”) is the high-end, more heritage, workwear from Ralph Lauren: you will find henleys, jeans, knitwear or sleeveless vests, among others.
- Purple Label is the more chic, high-end tailoring from Ralph Lauren: you will find suits, shirts, sweaters and polo shirts.
Overall, we recommend that you buy Ralph Lauren rather with a promotion (avoiding counterfeits and parallel productions), and rather on the RRL and Purple Label ranges mentioned.
The history of the brand is linked to that of its eponymous founder. In 1967, Ralph Lauren opened his first store, specializing in ties, and distributed a brand that he himself produced: Polo .
Faced with success, a line of shirts and other men's clothing has expanded the brand's range. The famous polo shirts were launched in 1972 and met with significant success. The house gained enormous notoriety by notably dressing Robert Redford in The Great Gatsby the same year.
The company has been listed on the stock exchange since 1997 and is currently worth 13 billion dollars, with 6.9 billion turnover each year, making Ralph Lauren the 122nd largest fortune in the world.
