Presentation of the Tucson suede leather jacket

Blouson en cuir suédé homme : le Tucson marron

Discover our new Tucson jacket in tobacco brown, made from a Portuguese suede leather, now available. A characterful piece that enhances your silhouette and accompanies you throughout the warmer season.

The tobacco Tucson is a men’s jacket made from sheep suede, tanned in Portugal by J. R. Fontes & Filhos (Leather Working Group certified) and also manufactured in Portugal, near Porto.

The suede jacket, a menswear classic

The Tucson is the kind of jacket you can wear almost all year round. Made from suede leather in a tobacco shade, it works on its own in mild weather or as a mid-layer under a coat when temperatures drop. With its patch pockets and two-way zip, it looks just as good with jeans as it does with wool trousers. Discover our Dillon jacket in black leather, too, for a more urban look.

A soft, comfortable jacket in Portuguese suede

A rich tobacco shade

To the touch, this suede leather feels exceptionally soft : your fingers glide gently over its velvety surface. It is a wonderfully tactile feel, almost addictive, and you may well find yourself running your hand over the jacket while wearing it.

Its tobacco colour, with its rich brown nuances, is warm and easy to pair with other colours: we chose a medium brown shade, neither too dark nor too light.

At 0.7–0.8 mm thick, this leather is of medium weight, making it supple and very comfortable. It feels quite unlike the thick, stiff leathers you sometimes come across. The Tucson is an easy jacket to wear, draping naturally over your body and feeling almost weightless once you put it on.

A certified Portuguese tannery

While many brands source leather from Indian suppliers, where tanning conditions are not always exemplary, we were keen to work with a European partner. We found exactly what we were looking for at J. R. Fontes & Filhos, a Portuguese tannery that processes this leather in Portugal and holds Leather Working Group (LWG) certification.

The jacket is also made in Portugal, by a partner workshop near Porto that specialises in leather garments.

Edouard, our product designer, visited this workshop just a few days ago and saw the Tucson being made. Here are a few behind-the-scenes photos from his visit:

The details of the Tucson

This jacket features:

  • Four front patch pockets that set it apart from more traditionally designed leather jackets and give it a distinctive look. Notice the two lower angled patch pockets, which your hands slip into naturally.
  • A two-way YKK zip that lets you adjust the opening at the top and bottom for a different look.

  • Three interior pockets to keep your belongings out of sight: one zipped pocket and two mesh pockets.

How to style a suede jacket

It really is a four-season jacket you can wear all year round.

In spring and autumn, wear it over a sweater. When it gets colder, its medium weight makes it an ideal mid-layer under a coat. And on warmer days, pair it with a T-shirt or shirt.

Styling-wise, it goes with almost anything: a T-shirt, chinos and sneakers, or a shirt, jeans and loafers. The choice is yours!

Look 1 - Casual

Oregon T-shirt, Poetto trousers, Cori belt, Nazare sneakers

First option: style the leather jacket casually with a striped T-shirt, straight-cut light trousers and canvas sneakers.

Notice the soft shades and tonal palette that bring a gentle feel to the outfit: beige, ecru and khaki.

Look 2 - Workwear-inspired

Second option: bring out the jacket’s more rugged character by pairing it with workwear-inspired pieces: indigo jeans, a western-style chambray shirt and suede leather boots.

A more textured outfit, with heavier fabrics and greater contrast thanks to the jeans.

What size should you choose for your leather jacket?

The Tucson has a slightly straight fit, without being oversized: the shoulders are well defined to flatter your frame, while there is enough room through the chest to move comfortably and layer underneath.

The length is classic for a jacket: it covers your hips without falling too low or overwhelming your silhouette.

We recommend choosing your usual size.

How to care for a suede leather jacket

A few simple steps are all it takes to care for your suede jacket and keep it looking good for years to come.

Everyday care:

  • Use a regular shoe brush or a crepe brush to remove dust from your jacket.
  • A water-repellent spray is an option, but not essential. If you use one, choose a silicone-free product such as Saphir Nano Invulner.

If you get a stain:

  • Light stains: gently rub the area with a crepe brush, without applying too much pressure.
  • Stubborn stains (especially grease): we recommend taking the jacket to a leather-care specialist for a more thorough clean.

If your jacket gets wet, don’t worry: contrary to popular belief, suede leather is not particularly afraid of water. Let it air-dry away from heat sources. Once dry, brush it with a crepe brush to restore its velvety finish.

Things to watch out for:

  • Store your jacket away from moisture and direct sunlight.
  • Do not wash your jacket in water (either in a washing machine or by soaking it in a bath).
  • Avoid repeated friction: for example, frequently wearing a backpack can eventually make the leather shiny around the shoulders and back.

FAQ

Are suede and suede leather the same thing?

“Suede” is the common name for leather made using the flesh side of the hide rather than the outer grain side, giving it a velvety finish. It does not mean leather from the suede deer, a protected species. That is why we prefer the more precise term “suede leather”.

Can you wear a suede jacket in the rain?

Suede leather is not especially sensitive to rain. However, light-coloured suede can be stained by dirty water, and those marks can be difficult to remove. If your suede jacket gets caught in a shower, simply let it dry and then brush it with a crepe brush.

What time of year can you wear a suede jacket?

Almost all year round: on its own in spring and autumn, or as a mid-layer under a coat when it is cold.

Where is the Tucson jacket made?

In Portugal. The leather comes from J. R. Fontes & Filhos, a Leather Working Group-certified tannery, and the jacket is made in a partner workshop near Porto.
