Resolutely modern, the history of the mac has its roots two centuries ago. In 1823, Charles Macintosh (no "k") invented the mackintosh.

At the time, raincoats were heavy, stiff, unpleasant to wear and emitted a strong odor due to their oily finish. Charles, a chemist by profession, innovated by imagining a softer, more comfortable garment that was just as effective against the rain, by adding a layer of rubber between two layers of cotton.

It's a garment that has stood the test of time remarkably well, and whose shape has changed little from its original design.

Over the decades, it has established itself as a staple among rain coats. It was time to add it back to our collection: here's the mac Beaubourg, a high-performance, functional raincoat with an assertive style.

Italian technicality at the service of your style

Our ambition: to offer you clothes that look good and make everyday life easier.

That's why we've been paying special attention to our technical garments for over a decade.

Because of its history and its straight, covering shape, the mac is a piece that must protect you effectively from wind and rain.

For this, we didn't want to use a simple cotton fabric, which wouldn't perform well, or a fabric made entirely of synthetic material, which would look too shiny or plastic.

What we were looking for was a material with a hidden technicality.

And that's precisely what Italian company Olmetex, specialized in the creation of urban outerwear fabrics with technical properties applied to natural fibers, has come up with.

The chosen fabric, composed of 62% polyester, 28% cotton and 10% polyurethane, offers :

  • excellent wind resistance thanks to its dense weave,
  • excellent waterproofing (+5000mm in the water column test) thanks to its membrane, which keeps you dry, and surface water repellency, visible when you see drops of water running down the surface of the fabric, without impregnating it. To find out more, visit or read our full article on the difference between waterproofing and water repellency,
  • a beautiful natural look, thanks to Olmetex's expertise in working with the texture and colors of its materials.

To the touch, you can feel that this twill with its subtle oblique lines is densely woven, giving it a firm, reassuring grip, and above all, a good hold once the Beaubourg is on your shoulders.

But its moderate thickness of 309g/m2 means you can wear it most of the year: in spring and autumn, of course, but also on milder winter days with a warm knit, and on cooler summer evenings over a simple t-shirt.

Our advice on how to wear it well

The mac's streamlined shape allows you to wear it in a wide variety of styles: it goes equally well with casual, sportswear, chic or workwear pieces.

Depending on your preferences, pair it with :

  • sweatshirt and jeans,
  • a blazer and pleated pants,
  • a t-shirt and fatigue pants.

Meticulous tailoring teeming with details

1. A removable belt

Where the traditional mac doesn't have one, the Beaubourg comes with a belt to mark your waistline and assert your silhouette.

If you prefer to wear it straight, you can of course remove the belt or tie it in the back.

2. Laminated seams

In the event of a heavy downpour, water won't penetrate the fabric... but it can sneak in through the seams.

To make sure you stay dry, we asked our Portuguese workshop to laminate waterproof strips on all seams (even in the sleeves and inside the pockets), preventing any water infiltration.

3. Unlined construction

To promote better evacuation of body heat, we opted for an unlined construction, neither on the body nor in the sleeves.

What you see when you open the mac is simply the inner layer of fabric.

4. Carefully thought-out exterior pockets

There's another place where water can get through: the pockets, especially if they're open, and at an angle.

On the Beaubourg, the outer pockets are closed with a flap that opens inwards, so that water running down from the top can't enter the pocket and continues to slide downwards.

This is a classic detail, particularly found on vintage raincoats.

5. Two large zipped inside pockets

A rather rare detail in ready-to-wear, all our outerwear is equipped with internal zipped pockets to safely store all your belongings.

We put it to the test: a large phone like the iPhone Pro Max fits right in.

What's the cut like? Which size to choose?

The cut of the Beaubourg is straight and comfortable.

The shoulder line is clean enough to define your build, and the chest gives you plenty of room for layering without being oversized. This mac is not oversized.

We therefore recommend that you simplytake your usual size.
