Bonnegueule bags are made from thick cotton canvas, accented with leather details. These durable materials will develop a beautiful patina over the seasons. Here are a few simple steps to care for and clean your bag.
Cleaning the Cotton Canvas
- Remove dust and dirt with a brush.
- To clean the canvas or remove a stain, use a slightly soapy, damp cloth. Avoid harsh stain removers and vigorous scrubbing, which could cause the fabric to fade.
- Remove any soap residue with a clean, slightly damp cloth, then let it air dry.
Do not put your bag in the washing machine and avoid soaking it completely in water: this could distort its shape and damage the leather parts. You can also use the Bōme protective spray, which applies a light coating to the canvas and contains no chemicals or harmful substances.
Caring for Leather Parts
Leather handles and accents require different care than cotton canvas.
- To clean and condition the leather, we recommend using a suitable leather cleaner, such as Saphir’s Universal Cream.
- Apply a small amount of the product with a soft cloth, using gentle motions.
This care helps maintain the leather’s suppleness and prevents it from drying out over time. There’s no need to do this too often: a few applications per year are sufficient.
Drying
If your bag has gotten wet or has been cleaned, let it air dry naturally in a well-ventilated area. Avoid direct heat sources, such as a radiator or hair dryer, which could dry out the leather or damage the canvas. You can also lightly stuff your bag with clean paper or towels to help it retain its shape while drying.
