In September 1981, the world discovered a new hero, archaeologist: Indiana Jones, in the film “Raiders of the Lost Ark”.
At the time, this film was a shock: incredible action scenes, attractive hero with a big heart, travels to the four corners of the world, all sprinkled with a comic aspect. It's the beginning of a myth.
There, it's his clothes that I'm going to be interested in, obviously.
They had to meet precise specifications with the aim of being:
- Credible and practical in action scenes
- To include several “signature” and easily identifiable pieces
- Timeless, easy to identify with (not a Star Wars costume) and consistent with Indy's profession as an archaeologist
This will result in an instantly recognizable outfit that he will not take off for four films
- His unalterable hat, surrounded by numerous more or less proven stories
- His leather jacket, as adventurous as it is timeless, whose design was laborious
- His discreet but credible safari shirt
- Its rather cheap canvas belt
- His holster which contains his revolver (a Smith and Wesson most of the time)
- His “supersonic” whip (yes, yes!)
- His khaki pants with a very particular hem
- And his famous Alden on his feet, with endless debates on the color and model
Herbert Johnson, Wested, Cooper, Magnoli, Adventure Bilt, David Morgan, Alden, these are just a handful of big names who have contributed to the unique style of our favorite adventurer. The only accessory that I'm not talking about is his revolver, because I can't see myself recommending it to you in your outfits :)
