So, what are we going to wear this summer 2023?
Here comes the season where temperatures determine our outfits , where each layer of clothing is perfectly thought out and where we allow ourselves to show more skin than usual.
To give you some inspiration for the coming weeks and months , we asked several members of the BonneGueule team to tell you what they can't wait to wear during the hottest and sunniest time of the year. These are their summer clothing and accessory desires. Pieces that they've spotted and plan to treat themselves to soon or, conversely, that they already own and are eagerly taking out of their closets.
In this collaborative article, we invite you to discover the clothing and accessory desires of Jordan, Antoine, Cécile, Benoît, Kilian, Florian and Nawal. And of course, tell us, in the comments, what are yours !
Jordan - A Saturdays NYC Tank Top
There is a photo of me in a tank top and shorts. I will not exert any energy to find it and insert it in this article.
To give some context (a mitigating circumstance?), it was summer, I was 15, I knew nothing.
I wore the tank top because it was hot. I wore the capri pants because where I came from a lot of people wore capri pants. That's probably the only time I ever wore a tank top.
The second statement is false: I am wearing one as I write these lines. It is a Hemen Biarritz in organic cotton. I feel like an Italian mafioso rotting in a dungeon. As if clothing could transport you.
(The capri pants, on the other hand, I have never worn any since that day ( raises right hand and says “I swear”) . You could say that I received an illumination, a stylistic epiphany like few others. I simply knew that I had to stop what I had started. Sometimes common sense strikes without warning.)
The tank top is another story.
The way I wore it at 15 was because it was hot. No sleeves meant no pit sweat. It was baggy, cut like a sleeveless t-shirt (basically a basketball jersey), with some kind of really ugly writing on the front. To me, that was just the way it was worn. Practical and that was it. And I didn't mind the style at the time, if I'm being completely honest.
But still, I had this little voice inside me, common sense again, telling me that it was shaky. Without me knowing what or what to do. So I wore it timidly that summer and then nothing after that.
Until my understanding of the tank top changed.
Today I still wear the tank top because it's hot. But I see it as an undergarment , in the shape of the Saturdays above. And I prefer it openwork if possible.
I use it as a layering, worn under a light open shirt. And it doesn't make me any hotter than a simple t-shirt or a simple shirt, because I let the air circulate and my armpits are not caught in a vice.
This tank top looks like a grandmother's doily transformed into clothing. And I like it that way.
Otherwise, there was this Scott Fraser (beware of customs fees, right Michel?), this super affordable Corridor , this Hemen that I have in ecru and navy (fitted like underwear), this Stussy .
Antoine - A baseball shirt
A baseball shirt from the WTAPS brand
No, I've never played baseball in my life. I guess, like you, the only contact I've had with the sport is a Wii controller in 2012 .
However, I never let go of the idea of one day proudly wearing the colors of an illustrious baseball club whose name, city, player on the back, or even the rules of this interminable sport I know. This shirt for me is the New York of the 90s in a garment . An era that I fantasize about without even having known it. It is the Yankee par excellence.
If I had to choose a "Baseball Jersey" model, it would be this one from WTAPS.
I can see it worn well on the banks of the Hudson River, with extra-large cargo shorts and beige Clarks Wallabees on my feet, with a Canon in my right hand.
Cécile - A printed jumpsuit
"Heading to Rio with this jumpsuit with a wild back and “lobster” patterns by Farm Rio. I didn't know anything about this brand before its collaboration with Sézane and I have to say that it's a great discovery .
For me, summer is the season of patterns, bright colors, and more daring cuts , that's all that Farm Rio offers with sustainable values. So I set my sights on this piece!
Already, because I love jumpsuits and dresses, nothing could be simpler for a strong look (and to avoid false notes) , and then because the cut and the pattern are original and fresh!
I could easily wear it during the day with flat sandals and a small basket (I have the Itasy bag from our women's collection ) and in the evening with high heels, hair up in a bun and a clutch."
Benoit - A patterned shirt
Our Lamar shirt in collaboration with Kardo
This will probably surprise you, but I've been wearing shirts for quite a few summers now .
And since I love turquoise, this wave-patterned shirt ticks all the boxes. It's the Lamar model from our collaboration with the Kardo brand.
The fabric used is very light, it will be perfect for the hot (and humid) days in the Basque country .
I'll wear it with a pair of Escadrilles, a pair of Jinji Gurkha Bermuda shorts that I've had for a few years, and why not a necklace with a pendant from the Japanese brand First Arrow for the day . Oh, and of course, I'll wear my old pair of Dita sunglasses, which I bought 10 years ago, when they were literally half the price!
As for the evening, I'll wear it with our BonneGueule white jeans and our Wake khaki overshirt, which is a few years old now, or our Shonto overshirt! On my feet, I'll opt for my pair of Alden loafers bought in New York, before the price soared.
In short, the advantage is that this turquoise blue color is incredibly versatile , in addition to having a real originality. These are exactly my requirements for my summer clothes!
Kilian - A striped shirt with fringes
Call it what you want: short-sleeved shirt, short-sleeved shirt, summer attire, fringed coat ... Whether you're in Biarritz with a cocktail, or on the Breton coast in front of a platter of oysters, this outfit is the ideal piece to survive a sunny summer day with panache (a little nod to Jordan).
I have a lot of different models of shirts in my wardrobe. And if my budget allowed it, I would have even more! I have been wearing them for several years now, I think I got more serious about it when I lived in Australia , where wearing short-sleeved shirts was more popular than in Europe. Probably the casual surfwear spirit, and the climate of course.
As you can see, I love wearing them, and on all occasions. It's the type of clothing that can be worn open in layering over a t-shirt or a tank top , or closed, with summer pants or even shorts.
The materials used are often very light and crease less easily , which is also practical when traveling. And it is the garment on which we can allow ourselves many things, such as patterns, stripes, plays on materials, transparency, volume ... Don't be afraid to dare!
Just one prerequisite: don't play it literally by thinking that it will replace your classic shirt , worn formally to go to the office for example, it won't work! It's more of a garment to wear casually, just to chill out.
This model from Rohe is catching my eye, and I think I'll soon crack. Rohe is a brand that I discovered in Amsterdam, and that I really like . I like the products it offers as well as the brand's universe, with a marked influence by design and architecture. It offers some decorative objects for sale for example, including a selection of vintage objects . And then this fringed model... very chic! What more can I say except that this little twist will surely arouse curiosity and reactions ;)
Florian - A Satta pant
Probably influenced by my office colleagues who are much more stylish than me (yes, yes, you have to be honest and lucid sometimes), I am currently really obsessed with wide pants. But not pants cut any old how: pants that give a natural elegance, a kind of worked nonchalance . A casual equivalent of sprezzatura. You can find them everywhere now, but combining the right cut and the right material is a bit more complicated.
And these pants from Satta meet these criteria: a Japanese material that is not annoying with a subtle “pattern” in the direction of the warp of the fabric . Add to that an elastic waistband to be comfortable even after a good meal stuffed with burrata during the beautiful summer evenings, it's simply perfect!
Wear it with a pair of New Balance (I have a slight preference for the 990 made in the USA) or a pair of slightly chic open sandals depending on the temperature, a t-shirt or a blouse and that's it! It's easy and at the same time sophisticated thanks to the quality of the materials you'll be wearing.
And for the most chilly among you, I was also a little skeptical before trying wide pants . We sometimes put up limiting barriers, listen to yourself and let yourself be carried away. It's summer. An ode to freedom.
Nawal - An olive green boater
This boater hat from the Polish brand Paris+Hendzel was given to me by my little brother for my birthday. And it won't be leaving my head all summer! It's the "Pine Wide Brim Canotier" model, in olive green.
Handmade in straw, it is decorated with a small golden brooch in the shape of a lion's head . I like its flat and wide edges that protect me from the sun and add structure to a silhouette. This allows me to play on materials and textures , creating contrast with my flowing dresses in silk, cotton, linen or viscose that I wear almost daily when temperatures exceed 25 degrees.
Summer is not a season where I am very inspired when it comes to dressing - I have to say that I miss layering! So I always go for the simplest and focus on accessories that are noticeable and that will add "that little something extra".
This hat is the perfect ally for that. Paired with a dress, it adds a certain touch of elegance. Mixed with the white t-shirt / blue high-waisted jeans combo, it brings a touch of originality to a silhouette seen and reviewed (but which I will never tire of).
