There will only be one left: the ideal summer outfit

Il n'en restera qu'une : la tenue d'été idéale

One outfit for the whole summer.

The idea is not to develop a summer uniform. It's not about having x number of disguises of yourself neatly hung on hangers. In fact, that's all I hate.

Psychopaths have uniforms. I just say it like that.

If one day I were to slip up, become an outlaw, I mean - the law of men, not of clothing - a very effective punishment would be to condemn me to wear a uniform. The same suit, the same shoes and the same shirt and accessory over and over again, day after day. And if the judge really wanted to add a little cruelty to this sentence, he would post people on my path every day who were paid to say: “Is this costume new?” ".

We have the myth of Sisyphus that we can.

No, it's more of a sort of template . A model, to speak French. We keep the same structure but the shape, color, texture vary depending on the mood.

Benefits :

  1. We don't waste too much time in the morning figuring out how to get dressed.
  2. If you have done your job well, this outfit is particularly suited to the season in which you are participating.
  3. We keep a certain creativity
  4. We develop a personal style

Disadvantages:

  1. You must have several items of clothing providing the same function (you will understand below)
  2. Creativity is not at its peak either
  3. There is potential for weariness

So, what is this outfit?

A tank top as a base layer

If you read the article about things the team is excited to wear this summer, you already know: the tank top recently entered my life.

And frankly, I don't know what I expected. How come it took him so long to come to me. We tell ourselves that we know enough, that nothing can really surprise you in your niche anymore and then something comes along and gives a new resonance to your stylistic certainties.

It's commonplace, the tank top (whether you call it "marcel" or even "tank top" for that matter). Thousands of people wear them (hundreds of thousands?). And often not well, according to my taste.

The way I envision it: in the shape of an underwear (not a t-shirt with the sleeves cut off), with small perforations throughout the material, light in color.

Close to the body or not: I haven't decided yet. I have a Maison Cornichon that I took very large. I have Hemen which are very fitted.

I believe that, as always, the truth lies in the middle: not too much excess material but also not so much as to highlight the slight bun that has settled just above the waistband.

Benefits :

  1. The armpits are clear, which calms the mind
  2. The openwork material allows the wind to pass through and the skin to shiver with pleasure
  3. It still gives a cool little retro touch
  4. I can do layering even though it's too hot for that

I also like this model from Scott Fraser (be careful of the shipping costs… right Michel?) and this one from Gimaguas .

White openwork Marcel and brown high-waisted pants

A short-sleeved shirt on top

While I love the tank top, I'm not really at the stage yet where I'm wearing it with nothing on top. Except in the privacy of my home and I can see that my partner looks at me sideways from time to time.

The tank top alone has a connotation that even the freest spirits will not escape: it quickly appears as a lack of taste.

There is only one step between bad taste and kitsch. Kitsch is defensible, bad taste is less so.

So if I want to wear it alone, I have to accentuate the kitsch with, for example, a gold medal and glasses with tinted lenses. That's all, no more. It is already a lot. And of course, I wouldn't wear glasses with tinted lenses at home, indoors, knowing that it's only for show off and that I no longer show off to anyone at home. They have long since pierced the secret of my heart.

But for the rest of the world, it remains valid.

Anyway, all that to say: I always wear something over my tank top. And that's the whole point because I can do layering in summer, thanks to that. The openwork tank top is forgotten, it leaves the armpits free and if the short-sleeved shirt that I put on top is loose and light enough, it will fly in the wind and, if the latter does its job well, the air will pass between the shirt and the tank top, the tank top and the skin.

The ideal for the shirt is to take a cotton veil or a very light cotton-linen. 100% linen is possible of course, it's just that blends of materials have more staying power and need to be ironed less often.

Shirts that I recommend:

  • This 11.11/ELEVEN ELEVEN that I wore in this La Paz
  • This overpriced Harago (it goes on sale from time to time)

And so many more… as long as they are short-sleeved, light as feathers and loose-fitting.

Oh yes, you need a light colored shirt . Dark attracts heat, ABCL Garments

  • Lane45's Ganish
  • Textured White Cargo
Electric blue pants with thigh pockets
    • On the left, ecru seersucker cargo-jogger pants from Barena
    • On the right, a pair of sublime pants that I-couldn't-not-show-you-are-so-magnificent from Album Di Famiglia . Unfortunately out of stock at Rendez-Vous Store. But it was worth a look.

    Sandals to finish

There, I am writing these lines on the train. Direction Paris. It's my cross, I go there every Wednesday, round trip. I take the bike to go to the station. I'm not saying this to rant about my life, I'm saying this to say that, in my ideal summer outfit, I need closed shoes. Or at least ones that stick to your feet.

When I go back and forth in a Birkenstock, if something were to happen to me on my bike, my clogs would be sent flying through the air, heading for the Milky Way. At high speed, it can become a dangerous projectile for anything in its path. I don't want to have that on my conscience.

And at the same time, at the height of summer, unlined moccasins or lightweight canvas sneakers are good but I think we can go further in the breathability of the shoe. This is why I would opt for a pair of sandals.

Not just any ones. Precisely these:

    beige leather sandals

These are Steve Mono on loan from the excellent boutique and e-shop Flâneurs . Kisses to Peter and Quentin.

I don't have one yet. This is a purchase I have to make to perfect that ideal summer outfit. The outfit of the outfits. The one that remains at the end when there is none left.

There may be a small aesthetic barrier to overcome for some. But for all that I don't think it is insurmountable.

In addition to its practical qualities, I find that their interest also lies in the fact that they expose the foot just enough.

Even if I sometimes do it, I'm not a fan of walking around town with Arizonans, for example. Even less flip-flops. I just don't feel comfortable and I don't particularly like the idea of showing my feet. I have no complexes about my feet, I would like to point out, it's just that it seems to me that this is not the place to do it.

    Other possible sandals:

    • The Jérôme de La Botte Gardianne (left)
    • The Paraboot Ferret (although I find the shape a little too pointed - see on the foot) (right)
    Light brown braided sandals
    Black braided sandals

And you, if you had to choose only one summer outfit, what would it be?
