It's time.
Time to prepare ourselves to face the cold that is setting in.
When I say weapons, I mean warm and comforting pieces, in beautiful textures rich in detail.
To design them, we asked ourselves a question.
“What clothes would make us impatient for the mercury to drop?”
Here is our answer.

Our chunky knit turtlenecks: your protective cocoon
We have been offering the fine knit turtleneck sweater for a year now. We launched these knits because:
- The turtleneck is always a flattering piece for a man's build, while being comfortable and practical.
- Its collar adorns the neck, with a touch of sophistication that makes the difference in an outfit.
- Worn by Hollywood's leading men, the turtleneck has become a symbol of masculine elegance.
Why a thick turtleneck?
1 - For its robustness
This time, we went back further. To the marine origins of the turtleneck, to be precise.
When it was worn for purely utilitarian reasons.
A thick knit that adds real character to this iconic piece. Something extra, with a more robust and assertive side.
If the fine knit turtleneck subtly highlights the build, its big brother takes the opportunity to visually reinforce it by adding more volume to the top of the silhouette.
2 - For his tenderness
"This time, we wanted a thick and cozy turtleneck that would welcome us and comfort us when the temperatures drop." - Julien, our collection manager.
Because this garment is a protective companion, which protects you from any shiver in its big soft knit. Soft up to the neck.
The thick turtleneck is therefore a bit like a big bear: it is strong, massive, but you still want to cuddle it. .
A waffle stitch, for personality
Once you take off your coat, what's often left is your sweater. The only thing left to defend your style.
How to tell the difference? With a very unique knitting stitch.
"It's a point with a lot of relief, which pushes to the limit this dimension which is both robust and comforting of the piece." - Julien
It brings a lot of richness to the sweater.
The way to get it
At the beginning, Julien and Benoît developed a first prototype in gauge 7 , in three threads .
"We found that the waffle rendering was a bit flat, it was not bad, but still too fine to obtain the level of relief that we wanted. It still lacked character, and it did not make enough of a difference with a classic mesh" - Julien
For the second try, they stayed on a 7 gauge by increasing the number of wires. But the hearts were not beating enough.
" Third attempt, with a five gauge in three wires, we weren't there yet. And a four wire on the same gauge, that requires using 25% more material. So it's much more expensive." - Julien
Expensive, yes. But they gave it a try anyway: bingo.
"It was the right formula: a 5 gauge and four thicker wires than on the previous ones. There, we had it, our embossed rendering." - Julien
"It had everything we wanted: the knit was compact, soft and sturdy enough to withstand the wind" - Benoît
A Donegal wool, for the roughness
Donegal wool originally comes from... Donegal, Ireland.
It is characterized by this little colorful speckle that you can see on our sweater.
Originally it was spun in the old fashioned way and the little fluffs were actually flowers from the region.
Today, colored wool balls have replaced flowers. And other manufacturers around the world can make a Donegal yarn using more modern methods.
For a large knit, the difference is also made on this kind of details: small points that irregularly dot the material with a perfect dosage. Enough to give it a good level of originality, without overloading the eye.
- A brown speckle that highlights the ecru knit.
- A white and orange speckle that blends subtly into the brown mesh.
This Italian spinner belongs to the historic Vitale Barberis Canonico group, with which BonneGueule has worked since the beginning.
The supply chain is vertically integrated: Lanecardate buys its unwashed and untreated wool in Australia and New Zealand, then carries out all the spinning stages itself. From start to finish.
Total control over its production, therefore. And (excellent) controlled yarn quality.
Once the yarn is obtained, the stitches are knitted in our usual workshop in Venice.
1 - An ecru, to mix as you wish
"We loved this ecru which went very well with other colors." - Julien
When stacking layers of clothing, one rule to follow to never make a mistake: place the lightest on the inside.
However, it’s hard to do any lighter than this ecru, which is also a basic color in the wardrobe.
It will therefore make a versatile base for your outfits. It's up to you to have fun with the diversity and dominance of other colors.
2 - A chestnut, created just for We YOU
"While looking for our brown, we came across orange-camel shades that weren't natural enough. So we had this one developed." - Julien
Result? Our vision of the perfect shade of brown:
- Deep but not dark, with a natural look that works well with wool yarn.
- Far from the old-fashioned shades that can be found on most brown clothes.
- Light enough to blend easily into an outfit, avoiding too strong contrasts.
A superfine, super soft merino wool
"While looking through other brands' winter collections, I noticed something: chunky knits are often itchy. For these sweaters, we set ourselves a challenge in terms of softness. And I'm very proud of the result." - Benoît
How to meet this challenge? With a low wire diameter, which here is 18 microns.
This micronnage corresponds to the name "superfine merino" , a softer quality than grade C cashmere , and comparable to a grade B .
And this, for the greatest happiness of your skin.
The other powers of wool
Depending on the outside temperature, its fibers trap air to keep you warm or release it to prevent you from... heatstroke. And thanks to the large waffle stitch, this capacity for imprisonment and release is even greater.
These thermal performances allow us to easily alternate between heated interiors and fresh air outside.
Another power of wool: its natural elasticity. Coupled with the sufficiently stretchy knitting stitch, it allows the sweater to follow your movements well, to leave you comfortable, while maintaining your lines as it should.
Of all the textile fibers commonly used for clothing, merino wool is the least odorous. It does not allow smelly bacteria to grow.
And since it retains up to 30% of its weight in moisture without changing its feel to the touch, you will experience very little of the joys of sweating while travelling.
So, what temperatures for this sweater?
So, of course, in this sweater, you won't flirt with 20 degrees. But when it's less than 10 degrees in the morning and it painfully rises to 15 degrees in the afternoon, it's your friend.
By wearing a coat over it, you can face much lower temperatures. Without a scarf.
As for weight, a size M sweater weighs 712 grams. Which places it among our heavyweights.
In most cases, a sweater is assembled in the following way: the sleeves and yokes are cut from large meters of material, then sewn together.
Result? A waste of material everywhere, and an unsightly shoulder line, decorated with small bulges because of the seams.
In our workshop, the yokes are completely re-meshed together. No scissors, no wasted material, and clean shoulders.
Some style inspirations for your everyday life
David, city adventurer
"With its thickness, its clearly visible knit stitch and its speckling, this turtleneck gives a great look. That's why I wanted to wear it with pieces of character. The color of the coat, the side pockets of the cargo and the style of the boots give a workwear side to this outfit, which remains very urban."
Christophe, waiting for the rain
"Sometimes the dream is in simplicity. That of my inseparable BonneGueule jeans, my faithful Officine Générale cotton pea coat accompanied by my new National Standard sneakers, which my feet have already fallen in love with.
The BonneGueule sweater, with its strong character, is included in this outfit, as if she had always been waiting for it. To protect it, in case of heavy rain, I can count on my NN07 coat.
Benoît, between elegance and relaxation
"On this outfit, I wanted to play on the "carrot fit" side of the pants and make them contrast with the Crockett and Jones high tops.
I also found that these shoes, halfway between a sturdy casual and a dress shoe, were well suited to these trousers and the Donegal sweater.
In order to have a few pockets available, I put on this very light overshirt, because it's the sweater that retains most of the heat."
Geoffrey, dressed for the season
"I chose to use a palette of blues around the sweater. With this thick sweater and the raincoat which is light, I have a perfect outdoor outfit for fall."
