This is where you'll find truly refined coats, with impeccable lines, a strong sense of presence and elegance, and fabrics of exceptional quality—thick wool cloths, often blended with luxurious fibres such as cashmere, alpaca or yak.

Men's coat brands: frequently asked questions
There isn't a single answer. The best brand depends on your budget and the style you're looking for.
Wool is the most versatile choice for a coat. Cashmere, yak and alpaca add extra softness and a richer, more textured appearance. Whenever possible, avoid synthetic fibres: while they are less expensive, they are generally less durable and offer lower performance than wool and other natural fibres.
A long coat that falls close to the knee offers a more elegant and formal look. A shorter style, such as a peacoat, feels more contemporary and casual.
These are three distinct types of coats. The peacoat is a short, double-breasted coat originally worn by sailors. The trench coat is a long, double-breasted coat traditionally made from cotton gabardine. Designed as a raincoat, it is best suited to mild or transitional weather. The overcoat is a long wool coat, available in either a single- or double-breasted design. Elegant and timeless, it is the classic choice for winter.
A coat is an important garment: its primary purpose is to keep you warm for several months of the year. It's also a significant investment, requiring careful craftsmanship and a fabric dense enough to provide lasting warmth and structure.
In our view, you can find a decent coat starting at around €250–300. A budget of €400–700, however, is the sweet spot, offering the best balance of thoughtful design, a well-executed fit and high-quality materials.
Pay attention to the fabric's density and hand feel, the consistency of the stitching, the quality of the details (such as the pockets and collar), and the overall drape of the coat.
The main thing is to avoid pairing a very formal coat with overly casual footwear, such as sneakers, as the contrast can feel too stark.
That said, most contemporary coats aren't especially formal and can easily be worn with jeans, knitwear and other everyday staples.
