Here are our tips for properly caring for your Bonnegueule parka, so it stays in pristine condition for years to come.
One rule: dry cleaning
A parka is a technical garment: it protects against rain, wind, and cold. It consists of several internal components: fabric, lining, waterproof membrane, and sometimes padding. Not to mention all the details: zippers, snaps, and drawstrings.
Therefore, your Bonnegueule parka should be taken to the dry cleaner for dry cleaning (not water-based cleaning) once a year. Improper machine washing can damage the garment or cause the waterproof membrane to delaminate.
Restoring water repellency
Over time, your parka’s water-repellent properties will diminish: water will no longer bead on the surface, and the fabric will absorb—or “drink up”—any water that comes into contact with it. This is normal.
To restore the water-repellency of your parka, we recommend using a dedicated product. We specifically recommend “TX Direct Spray On” by Nikwax, which offers care products for outdoor clothing free of harmful chemicals (PFAS).
