My first is a first at BonneGueule.
My second one goes on in seconds in the morning.
My third was designed in three colors.
My everything will become your favorite joker item of clothing.
Who am I ?
Well, I admit I spoiled the answer for you in the title: in this article, I present to you our first three funnel neck sweaters.
The funnel neck, or easy masculine elegance
First cousin of the turtleneck, the funnel neck has followed in the latter's footsteps in history.
From a utilitarian worker's garment to a piece of preppy elegance, it has come a long way throughout the 20th century.
And he found his true glory in the 60s, when he highlighted the build of the great male icons of Hollywood.
And they didn't choose it by chance: the funnel neck is a simple and easy access to masculine elegance.
It subtly highlights your build and outlines your lines.
Its collar brings a touch of panache and sophistication, dressing your neck without enveloping it entirely.
All while remaining a simple piece: a comfortable knit sweater, stretchy, easy to put on and wear.
Do you want to look elegant without restricting your movements in a shirt? Joker: funnel neck!
Do you want to go out in a suit jacket without going overboard? Joker: funnel neck!
Do you want to keep it simple but still have a stylistic edge to your outfit? Joker: funnel neck!
Just one warning: playing this card quickly becomes addictive, and you end up wrapping yourself up in it for a whole week.
Because it's so easy to quickly put it on with pants, roll up your sleeves, and set off to conquer your day in style.
And when I talk about a whole week in a funnel neck, it's because its stylistic versatility allows it too.
That's also what we love about this piece: depending on your desires, you can integrate it into casual or sartorial outfits.
With a suit, a jacket, a coat, a vest, a mismatched jacket... you can always play up your funnel neck.
A fine knit joker that will always be welcome, in winter as in mid-season: unlike its rolled cousin, the absence of double thickness at the collar makes it more bearable when the temperature rises.
"The idea for us was also to offer an alternative to the sweater collars that we already see everywhere else: round, rolled, "V". You come across a funnel collar less often, it's more singular." - Julien, our collection manager.
Whether it is to build the versatile base of a wardrobe or to bulk it up with pieces that stand out from the crowd, a funnel neck sweater has its place.
We are therefore very happy to finally be able to offer you one, and I do not hesitate to praise it: we did not do things by halves.
Our interpretation of the funnel neck, to make your peers pale
1 - A knitting stitch that will make waves
The challenge of a fine knit sweater is above all to stand out.
Beyond the funnel neck which is a singularity in itself, Julien and Benoît decided to focus on texture.
Because apart from the Star Wars spin-offs, There is nothing more boring than a smooth, plain, uneventful knit.
“The challenge was to find a knitting stitch that was as deep and textured as possible. But we absolutely had to stay on a fine and light knit. ” - Julien.
The research continued until this discovery:
As you can see, the relief is there. However, the mesh remains very fine, since it is gauge 16 .
In addition to embellishing the drape of the knit, these cables also push the cursor of elegance even further.
2 - Professional work, without cutting scissors
If you are used to our sweaters, you know very well what we are talking about here: the fully fashionned assembly.
In our new workshop in Portugal, the different parts of the sweater are knitted in one piece.
Then, rather than sewing them together, it is a complete re-knitting which results in a more solid sweater, which falls better on the shoulders, without wasting material.
3 - Clean finishes, a more refined finish
“Rather than making very elastic and “bulging” ribbed edges, we preferred to stay in the elegant spirit of the piece with finished stockings” - Julien
Depending on your desires, you can let it live by wearing it loose and relaxed...
...or mark your waist by tucking it into your pants, to structure your silhouette:
4 - A winning trio of materials, from Italian spinner Zegna Baruffa
Founded in 1850, Zegna Baruffa is a historic Italian spinning mill which divides its production into three main ranges.
It was in Botto Paola, near Biella, that we went to unearth our favorite yarn that we are going to tell you about here.
If we wanted to work with them, it’s because:
- Between employee working conditions and environmental awareness, it is a committed company
- From spinning to finishing to dyeing, all the manufacturing is done in Italy.
- It is a spinning mill that has perfectly mastered the art of mixing different fibers.
Botto Paloa has put this mastery to good use so that we can offer you a yarn with...
70% merino wool, to consume without moderation
It's the ideal base for a sweater:
- Natural elasticity which allows it to adapt well to your silhouette, remaining very comfortable and without creasing
- Thermoregulation that will always remain at your side, between public transport and fresh morning air
- Odor inhibition that will allow you to wear it for several days in a row.
Because that's also why you may find yourself pulling out the magic funnel neck card all week: you won't have to worry about washing for a while.
20% silk, to see more clearly
The first two missions of silk are to provide:
- Its excellent resistance to tension, which forms the link between the other fibers while reinforcing the whole
- Its...silky texture, which makes the hand of the sweater soft and luxurious
But if this knit owes a large part of its nobility to silk, it is above all thanks to its third mission which it accomplishes with brilliance: silk is a fiber which takes and reflects light very well.
Here, we use mulberry silk: softer than wild silk, but also luminous, and with a more matte appearance.
10% cashmere, to pamper you better
It’s the icing on the cake that gives it all its sweetness.
The fineness of the cashmere fibers makes it supple and soft.
It is therefore the perfect final ingredient so that you can wear this sweater next to the skin, with pleasure and comfort. Without the hassle of a cotton t-shirt underneath, or a duck-patterned undershirt that would be difficult to hide in your gym locker room.
Three colors, three functions
A (real) white, solid base for all your layerings
Compared to ecru, a true white has the advantage of being more versatile: it will fit in just as well with brown as with gray.
And that, in terms of shades, gives you possibilities.
This white will therefore be an excellent base for your layerings, whatever the color direction you take.
Obviously, to make it simple and effective, it will also have all its potential carried alone:
A mineral blue, basic but not banal
You see navy blue sweaters everywhere.
It was therefore important for us to offer an alternative that was just as easy to wear, but which would completely stand out from the crowd.
Here is the result: a mineral blue, livelier, brighter, but whose shade will remain friendly to your other colors.
To all your friends who will be sitting next to you in a classic navy sweater, we apologize in advance.
An emerald green, your precious
For this green, it was also important for us to offer you something different.
“We wanted a stronger green, with a real twist, and which corresponded well to the preciousness of this high-end knit.” - Julien
And this emerald green takes up the challenge very well. It has this noble side, subtly standing out from other greens.
In an outfit, it's the kind of color that dominates and pleasantly captures the eye.
Up to you !
A joker is a card that you can play at any time if it is in your possession, without constraint.
If the funnel neck is a joker garment in itself, one last constraint could still appear: the colors worn.
With these three versions, no more excuses for not winning the game every day.
