“I get up at 6:30.

This morning I have an appointment with an old lady. I walk slowly outside. I have to say that I am lugging around a huge suitcase and four bags of hanging clothes. "Work in fashion", they used to say, the glam, the glitter, you will have everything.

I arrive by taxi in front of a parking lot. The sky is about to fall on me. So I flee underground with all my gear. Suddenly I see her. The old lady is there. Inside a luminous cavity. Magnificent. She is sparkling. Her color is an elegant burgundy, her four wheels have a very old-fashioned white stripe and what shapes! It drives me crazy that we no longer find these kinds of cars on the street and that they are now hiding in the belly of parking lots. I dry a tear.

Driving in Paris, I tame the beast. The glances of passers-by ricochet against the 204 from 1971. I act like a confident guy. The truth is that I concentrate on changing gears properly. People say nice things to me when I stop at a red light. I act as if it were mine. Without scruples."

" With Francesc our artistic director and Karine, our hairdresser/makeup artist, we leave Paris. On the motorway at 80 km/h. The other drivers don't hold it against me, the car is beautiful. Which shows that beauty can soften even the most scalded spirits. The shooting takes place around Béthemont-la-Forêt, in the Val-d'Oise."

beige sweater man

" For this shoot, I'm the one who's going to play the model. Francesc thinks I have a retro look with my moustache and my top-of-the-class side. It fits the atmosphere. I'm the guy who goes for a trip to the countryside in his classic car. Give me 10 more years and I'll actually be that guy. The idea is also to go and find the colours of autumn, bathe in the real, the authentic, stand in front of the majestic trees, run in the fields, breathe the air.

Our clothes of the month are of this ilk. There is the mustard of the sweater that echoes the yellow of the autumn leaves. There is the deer leather that stands out nicely against the green. There are the beiges that recall the fields and the paths."

"The day goes like this: we find a place we like, I change into the middle of nature, we shoot, we pack up, we leave, we find another place and so on. It rains, we take the opportunity to go eat. And we get back to work.

One day, 12 outfits and the feeling of having accomplished something worthwhile. But you are our only judges.

In the evening, I return the car to its owner, reluctantly. When I get home, I aim for the bed, willingly. When my body touches the mattress, I am asleep."

Texture, without bite

Or how to get a scratched effect that doesn't scratch

mustard sweater watch

Have you heard of shaggy dog sweaters?

No? And a Shetland wool sweater, does that mean anything to you?

These are those iconic sweaters with ruffled wool . Round neck, raglan sleeves... still nothing?

A bit like this one which - spoiler - is not made of Shetland wool:

beige sweater man

But the emery aspect is definitely there.

So, do you see what sweaters we're talking about?

Shetland sweaters get their name from Shetland wool, which is harvested from Shetland sheep in the Shetland Islands, a British archipelago in Scotland.

Are you still here? Very strong. Now you have even more clothing culture to share.

Let's be clear among lovers of beautiful textures: this brushed look is not lacking in charm.

There's depth and a real personality that gives a boost to any outfit, no matter how simple.

It's everything we love: a simple piece at first glance whose material seduces us when we linger over it.

So, we want to make our own and we're going for it. A whim of enthusiasts, just like that.

But here's the thing: Shetland wool is itchy. Its fibers are rather short, thick and therefore not very comfortable.

Also, the hand of these sweaters is rough. The most hardened appreciate it but we are looking for something else for the moment.

We want to find this "hairy" side in a more welcoming sweater. We want to be able to put it on in the morning without gritting our teeth.

In short, we want a different wool than Shetland.

We go on a quest.

man car yellow sweater

On the way.

We launch the laboratory and attempt a promising alchemy.

The laboratory is Filati Naturali. Our Italian spinner.

He offers to create a thread just for us.

How? By mixing two others and not just any:

  • That of our superyak and merino cardigan...
  • ...and that of our alpaca and merino cardigan
yak cardigan alpaca cardigan

Two bestsellers combined into one thread. Who said Avengers Infinity War was the biggest crossover in history?

Result, an alliance of noble fibers:

  • 17% yak wool. Luxurious and soft like cashmere
  • 33% alpaca wool. A competition thermoregulator
  • 50% merino wool. For a stable and strong blend

Filati Naturali, Italian mixologist

Expert in noble fiber cocktails

Filati Naturali is the kind of company with a vision: to promote, enhance and develop natural fibres in the textile industry.

For 135 years in Prato, near Florence, Filati Naturali has shown that it knows how to handle luxurious fiber blends by carefully selecting them: cashmere, alpaca, camel, yak and silk.

She regularly innovates and never lacks inspiration to surprise. As she knew how to surprise us here with the yarn of our sweaters.

The spinning mill is also Global Recycled Standard certified. This standard guarantees at least 50% recycled materials in their final products and this is a good point.

Let's continue on the ethics front. We asked Filati Naturali about the traceability of its fibers to give you as much information as possible:

  • Yak wool comes from Tibet
  • The alpaca wool comes from Peru and passes through the traceable Incatops channel. When we say traceable, we are talking about a system that allows you to trace the journey of a bale of wool by entering its reference on their site.
  • The merino wool comes from Australia and is mulesing free.

Then we move on to knitting in our usual workshop, still in Italy.

This is where brushing comes in:

  1. The mesh is passed between two rollers. Each of them is precisely adjusted to extract just the right amount of fibers and obtain that puffy appearance.
  2. Each sweater is brushed by hand to correct small imperfections left by the rollers.

We won't hide it from you: when we do all this, we can't wait to see the result. We want to see what it looks like and know if we've aimed right.

When our mesh arrives, we are happy with this experiment.

We try.

Its hand is soft, supple and airy. When you wear it, you feel a natural elasticity that accompanies your movements. Although it is light, you also feel wrapped and even protected. This is thanks to the puffy side of the brushed wool.

We are a few light years away from the shaggy sweater that bites. And for the ruffled look, we have exactly what we wanted.

man sweater

It is validated.

Oh, I forgot: as for the one who thinks to point out to you that your sweater is pilling, answer thank you. Add that over time, this effect will be even more successful.

A natural beige

It goes without saying

beige sweater man

In our spinner's ranges, we find this beige that we like. We say to ourselves that it echoes the autumn colors well, that it is versatile and that it slips easily into a winter or mid-season outfit. So we take it.

This is the easy-to-wear color. To put on when you don't want to worry, like here:

A sweater, jeans and derbies. Easy.

Are you more in the mood for a challenge? It can also be used as a base for a more complex outfit :

A spicy mustard

To make the sauce rise

Since we're so excited, we're thinking of a second color. Something strong. Something that tingles. Why not a mustard yellow?

We look at the Filati Naturali catalogs. Since we want a specific shade, we are picky and end up having one developed just for us.

We think it was worth it, don't you?

Iconic details

Faithful to this great classic

The shaggy dog sweater is an icon in the world of clothing. A bit like Madonna in music. And an iconic garment is not just about its material. There is also its style that goes beyond the small details.

We start with the obvious: its round neck, a sure bet.

man scarf sweater

You can slip a scarf in there, without even thinking about it.

Then there's its construction: raglan armholes that give it a natural rounding of the shoulders as well as a touch of cool and relaxed.

Oh, by the way, it's also comfortable.

Finally, its ribbed edges. Classic and typical.

ribbed sleeves

A 2.5cm high rib to be precise.

Of course, our sweaters are fully re-knitted. Without any harsh scissor cuts, for a clean and refined result.

Our hats in Donegal

Cherry on your style cake

A comfortable ribbed wool

From the ears, we can say that it is popular.

yellow hat

Why a ribbed wool hat? For its elasticity and casual style.

  • It envelops the ears without oppressing them.
  • It easily regains its shape.
  • Its ribs add relief and an extra touch of cool.

navy hat

This one is completely re-meshed in our workshop in Portugal.

It's a medium thickness, to keep you warm on the street without causing you to overheat on the bus.

A speckled Donegal mesh

We think it will hit the mark

Does Donegal ring a bell?

Donegal wool originally comes from Donegal, Ireland.

His specialty is this little colorful speckle:

Originally it was spun in the old fashioned way and the little fluffs were actually pieces of flower petals.

Today they are replaced by wool fibres and Donegal is no longer necessarily made in Donegal.

When we say Donegal, we are now talking about this speckled yarn obtained by more modern techniques.

The method is no longer the same but the character remains there. So we sprinkled them on our hats to give that little extra that makes the difference.

Knoll Yarns Limited, creative spinning mill

Yorkshire, United Kingdom

For the yarn, we turned to Knoll Yarns Limited.

Since 1978 in his small town of Ilkley, this spinner has built up a good international reputation in the wool sector. Today he exports to Australia, Canada, China and even Japan.

We appreciate it for its good quality threads as well as its accurate and well-found colors. So well-found that we didn't even need to develop any ourselves.

This is because they are constantly working on new blends of yarns, colors and textures to improve their offering.

For our hats, the spinning mill is in Ireland and the merino wool comes from Australia. It is mulesing free.
