The (versatile) nuggets of the editorial staff #18 – Christophe

Let the wedding season begin! – Readers’ letters #19 Reading The (versatile) nuggets of the editorial staff #18 – Christophe Next Editorial nuggets #19 – Benoit

This time, my nuggets are placed under the sign of versatility . And this for many reasons. The first, I must admit, I'm quite lazy, so when I like a piece, I wear it all the time without questioning it too much. And therefore in all circumstances, or almost, both in terms of climate and context. In short, Swiss army knife pieces . So I wear my Bleu de Paname jacket a lot (worn in this Jordan thread on henley ) and my white Officine Générale sneakers.

Then because, I like the idea of wearing clothes associated with moments of life, often during more or less distant trips. A coat that left me dry in torrential rains, a parka that allowed me to face the worst frosts or shoes to which we say thank you for being so comfortable after long hours of walking.

And as the summer holidays approach. While airlines require you to travel ever lighter (which will be the case for me towards the GR221 in the Balearic Islands), here are three nuggets that make the task easier. Whether we take the plane or not.

Bryan Double Jacket NN07

Why this brand?

I discovered the NN07 brand when I arrived at BonneGueule, through the voice of Benoît and summed up in one sentence: “A very well balanced casual chic Danish brand with quality pieces”. In this matter, I give him all my confidence. He talked about it in particular in his guide to clothing against the cold.
Their site is minimalist and not very sexy, but it has the merit of being functional. On the other hand, the brand does not provide any information on the places where its clothes are manufactured (which I now look at systematically), which is a real shame.

Why this room?

It was this jacket that gave me the idea of theming these nuggets. Sold as a 3 in 1 sold by NN07, it caught my attention. My M-65 Edwin with its removable liner and hood does the job very well, but it is very casual.

The NN07 jacket seduces me with a more sober, slightly dressier design . And under the visible mac hides a softshell jacket . As if this item of clothing was a Russian doll.

And unlike the lining of my M-65 Edwin, this one can be worn alone, since it is a softshell jacket. And that’s fortunate, given its price: 299 euros.

softshell navy blue jacket

A lining that serves as a jacket worn alone for real versatility.

In terms of characteristics, the jacket and lining have Primaloft insulation which Benoît thinks highly of and whose advantages and disadvantages are very well detailed in this article by Michel. Furthermore, the seams are waterproof and the YKK zippers are water-repellent. For the rest, the brand is quite stingy with information. Can do better.

Avoriaz Paraboot shoes

To wear simply with selvedge jeans (Brogueshop credit)

Why this brand?

It is linked to a childhood memory and an image immediately comes to mind when I mention the Paraboot brand: that of my biology teacher at college, who wore brown Michael derbies every day from September to June, with brown corduroy pants.

Since middle school, this brand has inspired me with quality and durability. It's a beautiful story and I'm not indifferent to the fact that it's Made in France.

Why this room?

Hiking shoes are a good example of the versatility sought after. Every year, I hike all or part of a GR. We know that wearing good shoes is essential. However, wearing pure hiking shoes in the city makes little sense, even when exploring the Buttes-Chaumont park or climbing the Butte Montmartre in Paris.

As said above, my hiking shoes are associated with the elevation changes we covered together. And when I look at my feet (yes, it happens to me), I remember all the landscapes that the GR offers to see.

Certainly I have a few Barkers that I really like, but going for a hike isn't sure it's a good idea. Not yet comfortable enough, maybe I haven't worn them enough and above all I fear that they won't be strong enough.

blue Barker boots

Very clearly, these boots are not made for exploring the rough paths of hiking trails. But I love them.

On the other hand, the Avoriaz from Paraboot have caught my eye since Jordan mentioned them to the editorial team.

. I really like the color and appearance of the leather on these shoes. (Credit Brogueshop)

They appeal to me in many ways. Already, they do not have a vintage aspect but a very historical one, since they are inspired by the Superguide Galibier model from Paraboot's professional range.

A very mountain look, which must be assumed outside the mountains…

When I return from my hiking days, I imagine them placed on a shelf. Used, just right. And, next to it, wooden skis from the 50s, with leather straps.

Its Chromexcel leather, its lug soles, its hooks and loops, its laces… all that gives me the feeling that they are indestructible. And with its Norwegian stitching, I like the idea of being able to resole them whenever I want.

Ideal for the undecided: it is only available in one color, bark. And in town, I can imagine wearing them simply with jeans or cargo pants.

Here again, it is a real shame that the brand's website gives so little information on the product and its manufacturing.

Seagale Merino T-Shirt

Why this brand?

Seagale is well known at BonneGueule, notably because we collaborated with her on a sweatpant two years ago. We like this approach of making urban techwear. And we recommend it quite often, praising the quality of the materials used for clothing that is both durable and breathable.

Why this room?

Merino is the subject of much discussion in the BonneGueule editorial team. Nicolò perfectly sums up all the qualities he finds in it: “When it is of quality, it is fluffier than cotton. It allows you to be dry all the time. Its catch of light in the sun which gives it a certain nobility. And the fact that it doesn't take on odors is great. » Which he explains in more detail in his woolen guide .

Okay so, it’s clear, a t-shirt in this material has its place in my wardrobe. As, this one is not 100% merino, with the benefit of 55% Tencel (for faster drying) and 8% elastane (for more elasticity) it will be more recommended for summer, because it is less effective against the cold.

With a round neck and a fitted cut, it seems to meet my expectations. And I like the ones with horizontal stripes. I just find them a little long for my taste.

As a bonus, my Leatherman pliers. It's off-topic, but very important, almost the archetype of the versatile object: multifunctional pliers. She has been on almost all my trips for 30 years, I think she will accompany me for many years to come. With its 19 tools (smooth blade knife, notched blade, screwdriver, etc.), it can be really useful, even if it's just opening a beer. If you are flying, remember that it must travel in the hold, it would be a shame to see it confiscated at the airport.
