To avoid missteps, check the following points:
1
Check that it is mainly made of natural fibers.
2
Check that the ribbing is elastic and returns to its place without relaxing.
3
The shoulder seam falls...on the shoulder.
4
The cut is snug enough to not puff out.
If there is one, make sure the zipper is of good quality (see RIRI, YKK, Talon).
THE ANATOMY OF THE HOODIE
The cotton knits mainly used for the hoodie are the same as for the sweatshirt :
JERSEY
It is the most used knit in the clothing industry, because it is the simplest to make.
THE FLEECE
It is a double knit made up of two stitches of different lengths. The longer, floating ones will be cut, scraped and then shaved to obtain a fluffy surface. Only one of the sides undergoes these steps to obtain the fleece.
HONEYCOMB KNITTING
This knitting structure makes the garment naturally stretchy and more comfortable to wear.
WAFFLE KNITTING
A difference in tension between the warp and weft threads is created during weaving: this is called "waffling" the fabric.
THE ORIGINS OF THE HOODIE
Little brother of the sweatshirt , the hoodie appeared in the 1930s in the United States. Inexpensive and covering, it was first intended for American workers in cold storage warehouses. But quickly, athletes adopted it to complete their sweatshirt collections.
Later, in the 70s, it became one of the iconic garments of the hip-hop movement, particularly for its comfort and freedom of movement. At the same time, its hood allowed the face to be covered, a detail appreciated by gangsters.
The derivative use of the hoodie as a "balaclava" largely tarnished its image. It was not until the 90s that brands like Ralph Lauren restored its image and gave it a preppy dimension.
