Your Japanese denim journey begins here
Wearing and breaking in Japanese denim, for us, is an experience everyone should live at least once. Our brand started there, and to celebrate its 10th anniversary, our co-founder Benoît sought a fabric that would let you experience it in the most authentic way possible. The "quintessence of Japanese denim," as he enthusiastically calls it.
After putting our product team through a tough selection process, rejecting over twenty proposals, Benoît finally found that essence in a slightly fluffy, robust 17oz denim with just the right irregular texture. This natural charm is immediately noticeable, setting it apart. And this is just the beginning— the more you'll wear it, the more it will reveal rich, varied indigo fades that are as unique as your journey with these jeans.
But what stands out most for us is the craftsmanship behind its creation. This denim comes from a Japanese workshop, highly skilled in weaving but less known internationally (where only Japanese is spoken), so they partner with the Collect group to showcase small weavers. To create the most beautiful fades, the fibers are dyed using the traditional rope dyeing method, bundling the threads and immersing them in indigo dye baths. This way, the dye doesn’t penetrate deeply, revealing more varied fade tones over time.
To achieve this irregular texture, the artisans weave on old looms. Mastering these machines requires rare expertise, and maintaining them is costly since spare parts are scarce, but it’s worth it: the selvedge shuttle moves slowly across the fabric, allowing the texture to develop, unlike industrial standards that weave quickly and smoothly.
And unlike those same standards that burn off excess fibers post-weaving, this workshop preserves them, retaining the natural beauty of a subtly fluffy denim.
