The balmacaan coat, built to withstand time and the elements

For a coat to be passed down through generations, you must choose shapes and materials that have already stood the test of time.

That’s why we selected the timeless balmacaan silhouette — a style that has dressed elegant men for nearly 200 years. It is defined by its straight cut, its tailored collar extending into a concealed button placket, and its raglan sleeves (with no shoulder seam) that offer ease and comfort.

The Kinvara features a comfortable straight fit — not oversized — giving you plenty of layering options. Its generous length, falling around the knee, creates a refined drape that moves gracefully as you walk.

To bring a touch of modernity, we added a removable belt that highlights the waistline and lends structure to the silhouette.

How to wear it

Wear the Kinvara like any other blue coat, and let its rich, vibrant texture set it apart.

Pair it effortlessly with a khaki sweater and raw denim, a blue knit and taupe trousers, or even a chili-red overshirt and grey pants.

On your feet, choose dark dress shoes for a refined look, or light sneakers for a more relaxed approach.

An exclusive fabric with a story of its own

You won’t find another coat anywhere with such a distinctive texture.

And for good reason: this flecked tweed was developed exclusively for us, hand in hand with the sixth generation of the Molloy family, who have run Molloy & Sons since its beginnings. It is one of the last mills still weaving true donegal tweed within County Donegal itself, in Ireland.

The starting point is a base cloth with alternating stripes arranged in a check pattern, rendered in a rich, deep blue that shifts between midnight and ink tones — distinguishing it from a classic navy while remaining very easy to wear.

We then enhanced this fabric with an irregular, colorful donegal flecking, carefully balanced in shades of sky blue, yellow, red, and purple.

This thick, warm wool cloth (465–485 g/m²) is slowly woven on machines over 50 years old, allowing the beauty of small irregularities to emerge.

Each length of cloth is then laid flat so the flecking can be adjusted by hand, one needle at a time.
