The priceless virtues of linen
When the weather heats up, nothing beats linen.
To begin with, it’s a cool and thermoregulating material: air circulates efficiently between your body and the outside, preventing that stifling feeling. It’s also a fiber with natural odor-resistant properties — so if you break a sweat, don’t worry: no one else will notice.
Contrary to popular belief, linen is a very strong fiber. As long as it’s high quality, made from long fibers and woven with care — like it is by our trusted Portuguese supplier Somelos — it offers excellent durability over time.
The same goes for creasing: a beautiful linen fabric doesn’t wrinkle harshly. Instead, it forms soft, natural-looking folds — not the sharp, crumpled kind you sometimes see.
Linen also has another unique quality: its natural texture. Its fiber structure is less uniform than cotton, which gives the fabric a distinct look once woven. In the cloth we selected, these irregularities are clearly visible: tiny, uneven streaks run through the weave, creating a subtle but striking slub texture.
Finally, linen is known for its eco-friendly properties: it uses little water, generates minimal waste, and can have a low carbon footprint. While much of the world’s linen is grown and woven in Asia, we chose a Masters of Linen-certified material, guaranteed to be 100% European: the linen is grown in France, spun in Lithuania (linen spinning is no longer done in France), and then woven, dyed, and made in Portugal.
